Yeah, I know, but once in a while.. *shrug*. I bought my jar months ago, it's still 75% full.

Veganaise is a good substitute. Tastes pretty good too in my opinion.

    Veganaise? What sorcery is this?

Lol. That's what I use and not because I'm vegan. I simply prefer the taste. Still get mayo when there's no option, but when I have the choice, it's veganaise.

Eta: and when I'm out of veganaise, I use yogurt. Usually Bulgarian white mountain for egg salad. I don't like the thickness for this type of dish of greek yogurt.

if you can get it, Heinz 50% less fat salad cream makes a fantastic egg salad. it's a British product. It doesn't taste like mayonnaise although the texture is similar. It's more like if you mixed mayonnaise with vinaigrette, but it's really nice and i like it better than mayonnaise. Unfortunately the supermarkets in Bahrain don't seem to have heard of it
  • I like to use trader joe's hummus or laughing cow light cheese wedge. It sounds weird but it actually works haha

I use Nayonaise which I get at whole foods. I'm not vegan but I do like the taste very much. This is from the ad:

Nayonaise is a vegan alternative to mayonnaise. Made from expeller pressed oil, it is a good source of vitamin B12 and Omega-3 ALA and has only 40 calories per serving. But it’s not just healthy, it’s delicious! Find it in the spreads aisle.
    Vegan
    Egg & Dairy Free
    Cholesterol Free
    Good Source of Vitamin B12
    Non-GMO

I have 2 that I use. I use them for tuna fish too:

If I really want mayo, I found one that is really low cal:

    Kraft Mayo w/Olive Oil - It is 35 cal, 3 fat & 2 carb

If I want something different than mayo & also adds a slight flavor, I use:

Drew's All Natural Buttermilk Ranch Dressing - only at local health food stores or online

I had been using Drew's because it is so much lower carb than other Ranch dressings. However, it has more calories & fat -
    130 cal, 14 fat & 2 carb

But it is awesome with tuna fish! I've even used it in deviled eggs. :)

Anybody have a good substitute for mayonnaise in egg salad?

avocado is awesome (high cal though).

THIS^^^ I made avocado egg salad a few times this spring/summer when avocados were fairly cheap.

Greek yogurt! or Trader Joe's reduced guilt Spinach & Kale Dip ( makes a slammin tuna salad too!)
But mostly we use Strained Greek Yogurt - thick n creamy and more protein n less carbs.... nom nom nommy check it out

Protein - Greek yogurt has twice the protein of regular yogurt, because the protein is concentrated in the yogurt after it's strained.
Carbohydrates - Greek yogurt has fewer carbohydrates, because the liquid that is strained out of it is high in carbs.
Sodium - Greek yogurt has half the sodium of regular yogurt, because the liquid that is strained out of it is high in sodium.
Calcium - Both yogurts are considered a good source of calcium, but regular yogurt has 3 times more calcium than Greek yogurt, because the liquid that is strained out of Greek yogurt is high in calcium.
Each person can decide which kind of yogurt is best, depending on individual nutritional priorities. Choose Greek yogurt for higher protein and lower carbs and salt. Choose regular yogurt if your priority if to increase your calcium intake.

Strained (Greek) yogurt is recommended for cooking.
Strained yogurt is a healthy substitute for sour cream, cream cheese, and mayonnaise. It's creamier, thicker consistency makes it a better substitution in dips and dressings. Strained yogurt is also better for cooking because it doesn't curdle when it's heated; regular yogurt can curdle when heated.

I do mostly low carb so I use avocado.
  • olive oil mayo is relatively good (and much better tasting than light mayo - and with half the calories). Avocado is quite delicious.

plain 2% Greek yogurt (I recommend FAGE, it has the best texture and taste) ... or think outside of the box like me and use pureed avocado, it tastes amazing!

EDIT: Apparently people have been reading my mind about the wonders of avocados ... lol

I've made egg salad with just some diced avocado and fresh salsa & cilantro. Yum. When you stir in the avocado it makes the mixture creamy!
