I'm eating it! My daughter decided we'd better get some...so 7 bags later they are sitting in my house mocking me! LOL
So far it's ok, but I'm hoping not to binge anytime soon.
Good luck!0 -
Gonna give out the candy to the kids who come to the door asking for candy. They'll say "Trick or Treat" and I'll be like, "nice costume, have some candy".
I am facing a bit of a dilemma, since I have some leftover candy from last year. I don't know if it makes a difference in taste, but it seems wrong to give out year-old candy.0 -
My husband already bought our Halloween candy to hand out about 2 weeks ago. Of course the bags didn't stay closed for too long. He and the kids have been going to town and there's nothing I can do to stop them. I just have them in a cupboard that I don't open myself and don't have to look at. So far, I've not had any and I feel good about my choice!
Good luck to you!0 -
I keep the candy bags in my 11 months old closet lol. Sounds weird but I can avoid the candy all day but at night I fiend for it....but not enough to risk waking up the baby for some candy so if I leave it in there, I won't touch it!0

I just eat it all because then there's none left to tempt me. you're welcome OP.0

Not eating it.0 -
I am making sure I log the pieces I eat. I will see that damage and will not do it again.0
-
You could easily fit a few pieces into your day if you want, you know.0
-
I only bought 500 pieces this year and I don't want to have to buy more for the trick-or-treaters (we usually get at least 500). Also, it "helps" that there are a lot of birthdays this time of year and I've been eating cakes instead.0
-
Easy! Give it all to a friend or neighbor. Have your boys pick out like, 8 pieces for them selves. If they get upset, just say, "Mommy needs candy out of the house. Mommy is not allowed to eat any." They should understand.
I hate candy, so when I get stocked up on lots of it, I give it all to friends or neighbors. (You can save maybe a couple pieces for yourself)0 -
Eeeeks!!!Mini Mars bars over the weekend for me.0
-
Don't buy any until Halloween day.0
-
Not buying it in the first place, or that's the plan. We usually don't get trick or treaters so we advoid buying it before Halloween. Sure enough last year we had 9 trick or treaters and they got stale granola bars (oops). This year I bought a large box of microwave popcorn from Costco and they will get a bag of that. If they come back.....
Next mission, to advoid buying Halloween treats AFTER Halloween!0 -
I will eat a piece when I feel like it and when I can fit it in, and log it. Otherwise, Halloween candy in my house gets turned into fodder for Holiday treat making...! (Add M&Ms to cookies, save plain chocolate for turtles, melt hard candy for stained glass cookies, etc)0

helpful!
OP - The good thing about Halloween candy is that it's in smaller portions which usually can easily be sqeezed into your calories for the day. Yes, it takes practice to not eat 10 fun size kit kat bars in one sitting, but that only usually happens if you force yourself to not have any. If you allow yourself to have 1 a day or every 2 days or whatever, it's a lot easier Hope that helps!0 -
My daughter has so far done 2 rounds of trick-or-treat and one more to come on Thursday. I did allow myself a fun size Snickers and tootsie roll yesterday. i can justify the Snickers as that is my absolute favorite. It was a nice treat - especially after walking around all day myself.
She has one more round on Thursday.
So far, I took a few pieces to work to last me the week - not one piece is more htan 100 calories. I also hid the rest in a cabinet above the fridge. If I start to steal candy from it I will have my husband hide it!0 -
Pick a few pieces that you really like, log it to make sure it fits, and then eat it
Don't punish yourself by forbidding yourself to eat it. Barring diabetes or insulin sensitivity, a couple of pieces will not hurt you. I promise!0 -
Eat it. Log it.0

This year we bought candy that neither of us (hubby or I) will eat. Once my boys finish trick or treating I will take the necessary candy tax (a Kit Kat, Snickers, & ButterFingers) as will my hubby! I figure it will be a nice treat and I will fit it into my calories for the day (most likely eat the Kit Kat first and then save the Snickers and ButterFingers for the follow 2 days):drinker: All in moderation I say! Why deprive yourself when there is free chocolate!!
Then the boys will take some a little to school, each day, for about a week and it will disappear into the trash or off to my hubby's work! This has been done since my kids started trick or treating over a decade ago. I figure they do not need to eat all of it and I hope they look at it as treats, instead of gorging on the candy.
I say enjoy a few treats and move on. The more you keep yourself away the more you will want it. Have a few (not a bag full) and move on!0 -
I do not deny myself.. but I DO monitor myself.. if I have treats then I log it...I have candy in my lab every day for students and I will treat myself if it fits into my calories or I can exercise a bit more to account for it.. I find that doing it this way keeps me from feeling "deprived" and then going into a full craving ( which is NOT pretty)...0

Kids don't understand that...
Just eat some...holy wow...log it make it fit.0 -
LMAO...THIS!! :happy:0 -
I just put it out of sight, that helps a lot. Up and away in a high cupboard above the fridge, way in the back so I can't get to it easily.
Another option is throw it in the freezer until the morning of Halloween. It's a lot harder to binge on snickers bars and skittles when they're frozen0 -
Lol! I bought some already. Haven't touched it. I have every intention of having a few though, but no problem fitting them in my calories.0

HungryGirl put out some info on calories for popular Halloween candy. This helps a ton!! It lets me have 1 or 2 pieces if I feel like I HAVE to have some.

Protein bar instead of chocolate bar is my answer. Other than that, when you have a craving drink some water .. hold off for 5 minutes and make a conscious decision to eat it if you want it not on impulse.
Good luck!0 -

+1
Don't start them on an early path to thinking that candy is a "bad food". In moderation, it's not. It's just yummy and gooey and awesome  :bigsmile:0 -
Many dentists participate in the candy buy back program...on a specific day the week after Halloween, kids can trade in their candy for a little cash or prize from the dentist who then donates it to the troops via Operation Gratitude. Google it to find a participating dentist, or box up the candy & ship it off yourself. My kid will get to keep a few pieces for himself & have a lesson in sharing, I'll take a few Almond Joys out for myself (to eat & log), and some members of our armed forces overseas will enjoy the rest. Win-win-win!0
