I definitely feel like I get a better workout when I do HIIT over steady state, but steady state has its place in my heart too!
My friend has been a dancer for an NBA team for 4 years now and she does this HIIT treadmill workout everyday for 2 weeks before auditions or a big performance:
Warm up for 5 minutes
Starting at 9.0 MPH, run for 40 seconds, and jump off the treadmill and stand on the sides for 20 seconds. Bump it to 9.1, run for 40 seconds, off for 20 seconds, repeat until you do 10.0, then go back down to 9.9, 9.8 etc until you finish at 9.0 (where you started). This is 20 minutes. Cool down for 5 minutes.
She also does weight training every other day.
She is a beast (and really hot)0 -
Car pushes, hands down my favorite
I like HIIT way better than steady state, it's better for you too0 -
I do treadmill, 20 min. 1min 18km/h and 1 at 12km/h0

I've never considered this. Thanks for sharing.0 -

The entire point of HIIT is getting your heart rate very high, and then allowing it to come nearly all the way down before your next interval. 20 seconds is not enough time at all...
HIIT intervals should look more like 30-45 second all out sprint followed by 2-4 minute cool down, and repeat0 -
I prefer HIIT over steady-state. I just get really bored running at the same pace.
I've never tried it on a treadmill, but I usually do it in 50m sprints. So after a good warm up, I sprint 50m, have a slow jog or walk back, and then after I get back to the start I sprint again. I should probably time my rests and working periods.
I also like to do this on a rowing machine, that kills me: 1min full effort, 30sec low effort.0 -
Mine is on the treadmill also -
5 minute warm up jog at 6.0
1 minute sprint for me is at 8.0 - HR at 165-175
1 minute fast walk at 4.0 - HR at ~120-130
Repeat for 20 minutes
5 minute cool down jog at 5.5
I would love to hear opinons on this workout too..am I hitting the mark as far as HIIT or are my intervals not correct?0 -

This is what I have started doing since I have been stuck in the 170s at 2-3 months:
5 minutes warm up
90 seconds of leg presses (120-140 lbs), 30 seconds break
90 kettle bell swings - 2 hands
30 seconds break
90 seconds stair climbing
30 seconds break
90 seconds jogging, sometimes with arms raised
30 seconds break
30 second leg curls/leg lifts - 30 seconds jogging, then back to 30 seconds leg lifts/leg lifts =90 seconds
Total round 30 = 1 hr 5 minutes. It is really really hard, but I try to do it at least twice a week with a rest period the next day.
I have Caymax HIIT Pro on my phone - cost $1.390
