Reset Metabolism????

I've only been at this for 3 months. October I haven't had much success as far as weightloss. It has been the first month that I really wasn't as strict on myself and I have had a few indulgence days. I have only lost 3lbs this month and I keep reading people saying "reset your metabolism" or "give your body a rest". How do you do this? Do you eat your TDEE for a week or two????? Last night I was frustrated and said "The heck with it--I'm eating over my 1200 calories". Now I feel guilty :( I am still fat. I am in the Obese Category. Why isn't the weight falling off me? It isn't like I'm 10lbs away from a "normal weight". My BMI is, like, 32. So frustrated.

Weight loss comes best with consistency. You don't need a metabolic reset, you just need to be consistent.

I keep reading how people are at a plateau. How do you break through it?

You can't determine if something is working if you aren't consistent/accurate.

Be consistent with your plan for a couple weeks, log accurately, weigh yourself/make measurements, and then adjust your plan if you haven't made progress.

You are not at a plateau. You are if you have been a 100% consistent and still haven't made any progress in a longer period of time.

3lbs of weight loss in a month isn't a plateau, and as long as you are serious and truthful with yourself the weight WILL come off. Losing weight takes time and dedication. It is a marathon and not a sprint. Good Luck with the weight loss. Don't stress. It'll work out! :)

Resetting your metabolism is a term used to selling your crappy products. If your metabolism wasn't working, you would be dead. Considering your losing 1 lb per week and averaging 1600 calories, it may indicate its a better goal for you, especially since you are only have 25 lbs to lose. At this point, aiming for 1 lb per week is ideal. I suspect the reason you binged a lot is because you have a really aggressive weight loss goal (say 2 lbs per week)?

Also, don't go by BMI, its a fairly worthless indicator. If you want a lean body, log consistently, have a moderate goal (1 lb per week) and do resistance training with some cardio.

You're not at a plateau though. A plateau is 6 weeks or more of no weight loss WHILE being consistent with intake and exercise. You've already stated that you haven't been consistent, which is the reason why you aren't losing consistently.

I've been at the same weight for 3 weeks. I weighed 207 on 10/3. On 10/10 I weighed 204--and I have been either right at 203.8 and 204.4 for the last 3 weeks. With exercise/without exercise. Eating more and eating less. The doctor (about two weeks ago) put me on Elavil to help me sleep. I read one side effect was weight gain. So, I stopped taking it last night. Honestly--I feel I have been pretty consistent of the last 3 months. The only thing that has really changed was that medication. I'm hoping that in a few weeks I will start seeing the pounds fall off again.

In your first post you said you haven't been consistent in October - A loss of 3lbs in a month that you haven't even been consistent is definetely not a plateau. Stop searching for short cuts, there are none.

You haven't gained weight due to medication, and as long as you don't eat over your maintenance level, there is no way that you are going to gain any weight.

Again: Be 100% consistent for a couple weeks and if there's is still no progress THEN, adjust your diet/exercise plan.

OP ... Looking at your diary, there is nothing really constant week to week about your regiment. You're intake swings by +/- 200 calories on average (not taking into account your exercise calories). Just something I noticed.

That ISN'T consistency though. You're doing reactive solutions to the problem you think you have, when intern the problem is inconsistency. Don't defend it, just get back to being consistent.

Yeah...it does swing back/forth. I'm still struggling with the concept of eat more to lose more. I think I really need to see someone to get a healthy meal plan. As fat as I am--I'm a picky eater. I don't like Turkey, Pork, Fish/Seafood. I only like White meat chicken and beef. I guess I need to figure out phase 2. Now that I've done this for 3 months it is time to start being smart about WHAT I eat. Thank you for everyone's input. I truly appreciate it.

I think nutrition is important but at the end of the day it comes down to how much you eat, not what you eat for weight loss. If you're hitting your macros and not going over your calorie goals, you can still eat whatever you want. Just moderation.
