Share your own personal ghost story. Here's mine:

I was staying over at my aunt's house and I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. It was in the middle of the night and I could hear crying coming from down the hall. Not knowing what it was, I knocked on the door and heard my aunt scream. When I burst through the door, a silvery figure was there at the foot of her bed and then it suddenly vanished. My aunt and I had definitely saw and heard the same thing. We still don't know what it was but it came back a couple times in the seven years she had that house. It's been seen by at least 3 other people including my sister.

I have quite a few experiences under my belt.

I live in an old part of my town where houses were built back in colonial days, and still exist. Here are some notables. They are more joyful to speak about verbally.

When I was a kid at my neighbors house playing, and we all noticed a banging noise in the house. No one else was home. But the mother got up, when to the cellar door and shouted to keep the noise down. The noise stopped, and we continued with our day. At the same house during a sleep over, something shook me and woke me up in the middle of the night. Thought it was my buddy, but he and the family was fast asleep. I went back to sleep.

The bar my uncle owned was built in the 1700's and was a place that George Washington and many other notables stayed at during revolutionary war times. I worked there when I was a young teen as the cleaning person on Sundays (the bar back in the day was not open on Sundays) and have many stories about things happening. Some were freaky.

This past summer, took a trip to Gettysburg PA for the 150th anniversary of the civil war (yes our President ~forgot~ to acknowledge this major event as he was in Africa). We took a ghost tour at night around town. As we came across a few buildings and started taking pictures, it was noticed there are faces in the windows looking out at me. There were some skeptics on our tour, and with these pictures it turned them somewhat into believers. We captured orbs too.

For some reason, spirit has always been around me. It freaks me out, but I am not scared of it. Just scared of the unknown, and the why... For this reason I am not a big celebrator of Halloween. To me, those celebrations are false. Many people who claim to love this pseudo holiday unfortunately do not have the sense for spirit.

At my mother's house, I was leaning over the tub using the extendable shower-head to wash my hair. I reached for a towel and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a guy standing by the bathroom door in full military gear. I fell to oneside and blinked and it was gone.

Oddly enough, I was showering a few years later and turned around to my soon-to-be husband standing by the door in exactly the same stance. He had recently finished boot camp training for the Airforce and was visiting me for two weeks.

So maybe less of a ghost...more of a premonition?

I never saw anything but my 3 girls all insisted that one of our bedrooms was haunted. One of the girls insisted that she lay terrified in bed one night, staring at a figure in the doorway. My grandson, at about the age of 1 1/2 to 2 years old would stand and stare at the doorway and cry and scream and point at it. When my daughter asked him what he saw (at about 2 or 2 1/2) he would make a face. Using his fingers to pull down the bottom of his eyes and his mouth.

A few years later, I got a puppy. He would stand in the opposite corner of the room and bark and growl at the door. Finally, I brought this matter up to my pastor. He suggested that I pray in the room and order the spirit out. To this day, there have been no more uproars. Though, my grandsons still will not sleep in that room. I've painted it as a playroom for them and they will play in there. (For short periods of time.) But, they will not sleep in there.

I've had quite a few but I'm still the rational person that believes that they could be explained now that im older.I grew up in a renovated house that was built in 1904 so the creepy noises and out of the ordinary stuff with old houses was a constant.

Nothing really freaks me out that much anymore but I did get a couple chills seeing that Larry King episode where they explored never land ranch and caught the apparition on camera. If you haven't seen it than please check it out here:

I've had so many experiences with spirits. My family lived in a house in Cincinnati for 13 years. While living there, I'd hear someone walking up the stairs, when no one was home. Doors would slam shut, there would be pounding on the floor coming from the basement. You would FEEL someone watching you from the same corner of the basement the pounding on the floor came from. I never saw anything, but my sister did. She experienced and saw, a lot more than any of us did.

When I moved out on my own, everything was fine and dandy, until I got pregnant. I saw shadows in the house I was living in. I've seen full body apparitions of a woman in a white dress outside walking around, twice. I had seen the elder man, who build the house three times. I would also hear him on my baby monitor, comforting my baby girl when she cried.

Then, I moved to this house. I've felt a spirit. I've seen a woman walking around the house. Yesterday, I heard a woman scream in the basement. She goes into my room and down the stairs into the master bedroom. I can't escape them.
  • Was in an old farmhouse by myself, only went in to use the loo.. all the windows/doors were closed and no one was in the house, and the doors started slamming. Never went in there again haha.

I was making out with a guy back in high school when the phone rang. The voice said, "What are you doing with my son?" I told the guy and he said, "My dad is dead." But who was phone?

When I was about 12 years old I saw a few figures at the end of the couch. I had a conversation when them and they told me quite a few stories. When I woke up I asked my mom about these people and she was shocked. She had never spoken about them. She took me to my uncles house and got out the old photo albums and I told her who I saw. My mom didn't know what to say and my uncle thought that we were pulling his leg.

The day my grandfather passed... When he actually passed I had gone outside to smoke (in the garage), and was talking to my Aunt. Suddenly the lights on his motorcycle and his Chrysler started flickering off and on, then just as suddenly all was quiet.

Our collective theory was he needed one last good-bye to his treasures

The Menger Hotel is a very old cowboy hotel situated next to the Alamo. People such as Teddy Roosevelt have stayed there. It's a gorgeous place and worth a look on google pics. Anyhow, one night my sister stayed there as she had some business in San Antonio. My sister is a very intelligent person is not one given to fears or anything like that. Anyhow, she is alone in her room when she feels something or someone start brushing her hair. No one is there. It was so scary that she immediately checked out. It wasn't until later that she learned that the hotel has a long history of apparently being haunted.

As it happens, I have a colleague who loves haunted places and when she asked for a recommendation of a place to stay in San Antonio, I told her about the Menger. She immediately made her reservations to stay there. She'll be going in the next couple of months and I'm eager to hear about her experience!

I was going up the stairs to my bedroom, in the dark, after getting a drink of water in the middle of the night. I get up to where my room is, the hear a voice of a man tell me "Watch out!" and I totally froze and my eyes widened to try to look around in the dark. I saw no one, so whilst still standing in place, I reached for my bedroom light.. Only to realize there was a knife on the floor and I would have totally stepped on it.. My mom must have been removing paint from the stairwell with a knife after she ran out of sandpaper..

Week later, my mom saw the figure of a ginger man standing in front of her bedroom and looking at her, then he faded from her view. Same man, perhaps? Who knows.

Never heard from him after that. Creepy? Yes. Ghost? Eh, I don't think so. Who knows, after all.

It's not mine, but my husband's. There's an old elementary school in town where he used to train. The background story: a janitor raped and murdered a young girl in the school, left her body in the boiler room in the basement, then went to a third floor class room and hung himself.

Hubs story: He and his mates had been training one night, and were getting ready to leave when they passed by the basement steps (just 3 steps down), when they heard a little kid singing/humming. There are small shops in some of the classrooms, so they thought it was someone's kid playing around. They called down the corridor, and the humming continued. It was late at night, around 10p, so they didn't want to lock up and leave someone's kid behind, so they headed down the hall to see if they could find him/her. As they passed by the boiler room, the light overhead went out, and the humming stopped. No other lights were out in that hall.

Now my husband is not one for an active imagination, so I believe he's not making this up.

Ghost Hunters/TAPS investigated the school as well: http://www.syfy.com/ghosthunters/episodes/season/s06/episode/e617/grammar_school_ghosts

No such thing as ghosts. Just because a person cannot explain something, that doesn't make it about ghosts or spirits.

It's in my sons room, I've only seen a fleeting shadow walk pass a door upstairs but he has been woken up several times at night in his life and asked who the old lady is that stands in the corner of his bedroom. We had the house blessed but has made no difference.

    True story.

I was working a late shift for a month. I normally work days. One evening production was down and we left work about 9pm. We usually worked until 4 in the morning. I got home about 10pm. As I opened the front door, I heard a rustling of clothes from the back of the house where the bedroom was. As I approached our bedroom door, I saw a fleeting movement of shadows under the door. I opened it, just in time to see a shadow exiting my bedroom window.

My wife was in bed, p[ulling the covers up over her head. I ran to the window and looked out, but saw nothing. I turned to my wife. She was flush and out of breath. Visibily shaken. She said she had gone to bed early and an apparition ewnterred the room and woke her up.

True story. The ghost even left behind one white sock.

Every morning I go into the bathroom and just as I am about to leave I feel this presence behind me, it never fails and I have physical evidence that this presence is there. Always at the same time always the same place, just as I step on the scales I get this feeling that someone or something is right behind me, I look over my shoulder and see nothing. I look down at the scale and I instantly know that this evil spirit is really there, there is no way I weigh 98.4kg the evil spirit has its invisible foot on the scale again. From my observations I can tell you that ghosts and spirits do not float they are not weightless entities, mine weighs at least 10kg and does not restrict his activities to the hours of darkness!

I worked in a restaurant/office building when i was in HS/college. In the early 1900's, it was a hotel, and the building is well over 100 years old.
We used to have to go upstairs(the restaurant was in the basement) and perform a "security check" at the end of each night after some vagrants were caught by shopkeepers sleeping there overnight. On one of these security checks, i was walking 3 abreast with 2 coworkers down the 3rd floor hallway, when i felt a blast of cold air pass THROUGH me. I froze in my tracks and said, "did you guys feel that?" I got two answers of, "feel what?" "That cold air!" They swore up and down that they felt nothing. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and still does to this day, even as i type this.
The same thing occurred one other time after that when i was cleaning the dining rooms on a Sunday morning.

Oh yeah, all the windows are sealed in this building and the doors were all closed at the time.

    I have a few, actually!

I don’t remember any part of this, this is just what my Mum has told me. Apparently when I was young (about 4 or 5 I believe) I used to go on and on about this imaginary friend I had called Carl that used to sit in my room at night and talk to me. My Mum didn’t think anything of it, until one day my next-door neighbour asked my Mum if I had a friend over last night. When my Mum said no, the woman told her that she’d been in the garden and had seen a man looking out of my bedroom window. At the time, we lived alone – my Dad had separated with my Mum.

The second time I do remember, I must have been around 15 or 16. I was actually asleep and I woke up to see the fairly clear shape of a man sitting on the end of my bed. The only reason I didn’t just right it off as a dream is because I could hear and feel myself trying to scream. Whatever it was just went after a few seconds and I came over with the oddest feeling – I wasn’t really scared when I look back on it, I think the attempt to scream was just a reaction, but I felt calm and safe.

The third time was when I was staying at my Dads house. He works nights. He left at about 10:30pm and I went to bed, then at around 2am I came downstairs to get a glass of water and saw what I thought was him (I didn’t turn the lights on) sitting at the kitchen table. I said ‘oh, you’re home early’, as I walked past, I grabbed a glass then when he didn’t answer I turned round, and there was no-one there.

Not me, but my parents when they were together lived in a house that they swore wasn’t right. We used to have a german shepherd called Bonnie, and the house was old with big heavy sliding doors rather than ones that pushed open. It even had a world war 2 bunker in the garden. One night my parents went out to dinner, they left Bonnie in the living room with all the doors closed and all the lights off, and when they got back a couple of hours later, every single light was on, every single door was open and the dog was howling at the bottom of the stairs.

I would like to add that I don’t necessarily believe in ghosts, I think a lot of things have reasonable explanations and can be down to tiredness and imagination, but I keep an open mind!
