Hi,
I was steadily losing weight over the past month and over one weekend, I blew it all and gained it back!!!! How do you lose weight and still have a life? Is it possible to bounce back this week or will it take another freaking month to lose the 4 lbs again? GRRRRRRR I didn't think one weekend would ruin it all.

You didn't gain 4 lbs over the course of a weekend. Not unless you ate 14000 calories. You're seeing water retention/bloating. One weekend didn't ruin jack squat.0

Weigh yourself again later this week, It would be tough to truly gain 4 pounds in a weekend. If I haveTOO much fun on the weekend, I try to wait until Wednesday to weigh myself it is usually just water retention from too much sodium.0

You probably didn't actually blow it all on one weekend. Not 4 pounds worth anyways. Your body uses up energy stores and water weight at the start of your weight loss journey. For this reason, some people suggest going for about 5 pounds under your goal so that when you start eating at maintenance and get those stores back, it'll bounce up to your goal weight.
You probably just gained water weight or quick-use energy storage. Once you start up again it'll probably melt off in the first week or two.0 -
Hi nm212, My bet is that you consumed a lot of salt during your "fun" weekend and probably are retaining a lot of water at the moment. Chances are a good bit of it will dissipate in the next week or so. My suggestion is to actually weigh less often - don't depend on your scale to tell you you've been "good" or "bad." The fit of your clothes is a better gauge. Some weeks you won't lose a single ounce but your body is replacing fat with muscle, so your clothes might fit a little better....good luck.0

Key word: lifeSTYLE, not just life.
Also, I doubt you permanently gained 4 lbs in one weekend (could just be some water weight from high-sodium foods) and our body weight fluctuates daily (especially with TOM) so you may end up weighing yourself tomorrow and be back down to where you were before.
Unfortunately, that's all I got for now. Be persistent, accept the change you your lifestyle you'll need to make to make it permanent, and be patient. Good luck!0 -
Probably just water retention if you ate out in restaurants a lot.
Not sure what you mean by you 'blew it all', but I'm going to assume you were out with friends and overdid it?
"Having a life" and eating and drinking way too much do NOT have to go hand in hand. You just need to find a balance, and remember that if your friends order a bunch of crappy junk food when you're out, it doesn't mean you have to do it too....its a hard habit to break, but not as hard as you might think.0 -
No worries you def. did not gain that weight unless, like previously posted, you ate a crap load of food. Remember, it takes each lb = 3,500. Also, don't forget, MFP takes into consideration your deficit, so if you ate over, chances are its just maintenance calories.0

Thanks guys!! Actually , that is true that maybe I should wait a few days because it hasn't been a full week since I last weighed myself on Tuesday. I didn't think about water weight and yes I did have salty foods. I was walking alot though too so was kinda surprised by the scale this morning, but I feel better now after hearing your responses. Thank you! I was feeling like crap this morning and really guilty too...like wanted to give up. I'm gonna keep pushing forward!0

Just drink lots of water and do an extra kick butt workout today and/or tomorrow and I bet by Wednesday you are back down.0

Like others have said, it's mostly water retention, unless you really went all out.
I'm going to give the opposite advice on weighing: weigh every morning, but use an exponentially smoothed weighted average to find the trend underneath the daily fluctuations. John Walker explains how and why in The Hacker's Diet (free online at http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/). See the chapter on "Signal and Noise."
Once I realized how much my weight fluctuated every day, *and* how I would be heavier after eating out even if I kept my portions under control (because I use very little salt when cooking at home), I was far less stressed out about waking up to see the scale a couple pounds over the previous number.0
