I've never heard of this fast, but just looked it and it sounds interesting. My interest has been peeked.0

A friend of mine tried it and saw Satan. Probably because of the lack of calories.

IN for Waffle
OUT for unnecessary 'detox' diets0 -
If it has "fast" or "detox" in the name, avoid it at all costs.
Trading one unhealthy habit (overeating) for another (fasting) is the opposite of progress.0 -
I guess it's a religious fast so that's a whole other argument I won't go into here.0

This. One of the main reasons why the majority of crash/fad dieters end up regaining all of the weight they lost is because they are not learning the habits that are learned when you eat a moderate, unrestricted diet.
What is typical of a fast is you severely restrict or eliminate your caloric intake for a period of time. You lose weight primarily in the form of water weight. You begin dehydrating, partially as a result of low sodium intake. This causes your body to excrete water in order to maintain homeostasis between the sodium levels of your ECF and ICF. This is bad. Your body needs water. You also lose some muscle mass, which reduces your bodies overall metabolism due to reduced LBM. And you lose a bit of fat. But then you are just going to likely binge when you end the fast anyway, regaining it all, making it pointless as well as dangerous.0 -
It's a religious 21 day fast. you may as well heckle people over Ramadan.0

The Daniel fast is not a fast as thought of by most. It is mainly a plant based diet. It is not necessarily severely calorie restricted.
No meat, no junk, water only to drink. I've seen worse.0 -

Those are the only limitations? Being a vegetarian? It is doable then.0 -

I was raised in the protestant church. I have never, ever, not once, heard of someone using that daniel diet as an observance of faith. Never.0 -

Real Christians do the Daniel Fast, then follow it with taming hungry lions. Don't halfass it.0

I guarantee you there will be people here on MFP doing it. There were last year.
Just because you don't observe a certain ritual doesn't mean other people don't.
I'm not religious, although like you, I was raised in the Protestant faith. I'm not about to judge anyone's religious practices no matter my feelings on them.
Your argument is an appeal to popularity, a logical fallacy.0 -

Religion is one thing, promoting a fast to sell books is a whole other story.

lol and you're trying to make this discussion about religion, when it was meant to be about a diet.0 -

You called this a "religious" fast, and then stated it was a tenant of Christianity just because some Christians follow it. I can create a "Bacon for Jesus" movement, and that doesn't make it a part of Christianity; perhaps it is a part of THEIR religious experience, but not to Christianity as a whole. Your overstatement, which appeals to popularity, is a logical fallacy.0 -

Other religions get a pass on their fasting. If you give a pass to one, you should give a pass to any.0 -

No. I personally think they are both silly, but it's not my call if people want to observe their faith any way they want.
