Do you take your shoes off?

I find it pretty gross if someone wears their shoes into my home, where I'm wearing socks. I never considered it rude to ask guests to remove their shoes when they came into my house but apparently some people think it is rude. I live in Buffalo I could not imagine what my house would look like if everyone wore their muddy snowy slushy boots inside.

Well, another thing to consider is the foot hygiene of those walking around barefoot or in filthy three day old socks too.

I know plenty of people that ask for you to remove your shoes when you come inside their home. I do not find it rude at all, what I do find rude is people that refuse to do that! It is your home, you have every right to ask for that consideration.

Shoes gross me out too, and I argue with the man all the time about wearing shoes in the house. He insists on walking on the bathroom rug with shoes...gross!

So yes I think it's appropriate to ask them to remove them.

I would rather they keep their shoes on just in case of smelly feet. I've had my share of smelly feet when my mom used to wear my shoes and then blame ME for making them stinky, when it was HER feet.

    Just.. No, please.
  • I never take my shoes off inside till the very end of the day, when I am just wantching tv. If I walk around much without shoes on my back and feet start hurting. I will take them off if I am at someone elses house if they ask me to though.

I ask people to remove their clothes when they enter my house. All those germs from being outside...yuck!

Leaving your shoes on when entering a house isn't even a thing where I am from. Is this an American etiquette tradition? I've always grown up in houses with shoe mats and racks by the door. You don't even have to ask anyone if they would mind removing their shoes, it's just normal here to do so.

I just rip their clothes myself, I don't waste time asking.

I never want guests to bother with that.

Yup. I personally would rather have dirt on my floors than Onychomycosis, Ringworm or Tinea pedis (Athletes Foot)

But you would rather have this on your floors

I don't ask people to take their shoes off. Our carpet is no longer nice enough (mostly thanks to my hubby) and we have kids and cats. It's not as clean as I'd like it to be anyway...

Clearly you people run in different circles than I. I'm glad that most of the people that enter my home are dressed. In some cases, I would even go so far as to offer them more clothing.
  • If I walk into a house and see the people who invited me over wearing socks then I will remove my shoes. If not, then they stay on.

A lot of times when I go visit people and I know I have to remove my shoes I'll bring my slippers so my feet are warm and I'm comfy. I wouldn't be offended in the least if someone asked me to take my shoes off before entering.

I have a dog. I can't ask him to take his paws off... so I really don't care if people have shoes on, as long as it's not on the furniture or the bed...
