One of the most important things to me is fiber, so yes, I track all vegetables.
Some vegetables have a lot of calories. Cucumbers and tomatoes probably aren't going to make much difference.0 -
If it goes into my mouth I count it regardless of if its just lettuce0

Calories are calories...I track EVERYTHING!0

They have calories, so I guess I don't see how not counting them makes sense. They are low in calories, but in the end its still calories in calories out.

I used to do WW too. It took a bit to get used to having to track the 80 calories that were in an apple. Every calorie makes a difference.0

Track everything. Everything.0

I track the cups of spinach I use for salads and smoothies. However, If I have a couple slivers of cucumbers and a few grape tomatoes then no, sometimes I'll just wrap em all into a bundle and estimate say 20 cals and quick tool them into my diary.0

Always track your fruit though, higher in sugar and cals....so they're not "free".0

If you are like many MFPers the occasional half cup of vegetables won't make much difference, even though I personally think that it is important to log everything we eat. If you eat however the recommended 7-11 portions of veggies each day then that can make a difference of a couple of hundred calories a day, which can add up to 2 pounds worth of calories ( 7000 ) a month.
I think if you want to do MFP you need to forget about WW, or stick to WW if it worked fine for you. Taking the rules of one and applying them to the other usually does not work in your favor.
I log everything, count calories, which means I eat at a deficit and together with modest exercise have lost 40 pounds since April 10th .0 -

^that. I even log my tea (even though it doesn't have any calories, as well as the 1/2 tsp of honey that I put in it). If it touches my tongue, I log it. :happy:0 -
Weight watcher is not MFP. Here you count calories to achieve a deficit. If you don't count your veggies, it would eat into your calorie deficit, which would be pointless.0

I count them because I like having proof I ate them.0

WW =/= calorie counting. WW uses a point system where they can make certain things "free" by over charging points on other things you eat. Calorie counting is calorie counting...if it has calories you count it. That said, if I pop a cherry tomato into my mouth or something I probably won't go run and log it...but on average I eat a good 200 - 300 calories worth of veg and fruit per day...so yeah, I frackin' count that.0 -
The only things I skip tracking are diet soda, dried herbs or pepper if I'm just adding a pinch to something, and sometimes hot sauce, if I'm only using a little. Otherwise, track everything!0

if you bite it, you write it0

I usually don't bother if it is tomatoes or cucumber and salad etc., unless I had the more calorific veggies potato, corn, pumpkin0
-
I count them because I am determined to hit my fibre goal each day- veggies certainly help with that.0

Fruits and veggies aren't magical foods. The calories count. Count everything. /thread0

Of course fiber is very important for weight loss and they got it going on!0

If it has a calorie you should track it.
Actually scratch that. Randomly track whatever you want, then come back in the forums every once in awhile when things just arent working out to complain and act frustrated. Then when someone points out the obvious get all mad at call them bullies.
But above all else start the topic with Loose and not Lose.0 -
WW also gives you a smaller daily calorie allowance to account for the fact they want you eating a lot of fruit and veggies. MFP assumes you'll log them and gives you a higher calorie goal. If you mix and match your favorite parts of different programs don't be surprised when you don't get the results you want.0

ok thanks everyone!0

EVERY calorie counts, veggie or not. I track everything0
-
I agree with the others..Tracking everything is the only way to keep track of daily calories. Then you can review your reports, see where you are, where you have been & what works for you.
Haven't found too many foods without any calories. You may be surprised at the calorie count.0 -
I even put in green tea which has literally nothing to it.0
-
They have calories so I count them. MFP isn't WW. So the rules aren't really the same. With WW the 5 servings are kinda figured into your points already. That's why many times if you're not losing weight they tell you to look at your fruit intake. There were women eating 3 or 4 bananas, an apple, half a cantalope, watermelon, etc. all in one day on top of their points. If it has calories I do count it now.0
-
Wait…you can EAT vegetables? I thought they were just for decoration? :bigsmile:0
-
As everyone has already said, all calories count so yes, track the veggies.
I would add that the ACT of tracking everything is just as important as the food itself.
One thing that most Overeaters have in common is that we tend to live in denial. We don't want to face reality. Thus we escape into food and bad habits in regards to food. Tracking is a way to make us face the cold, hard facts about what we're consuming. Thus, we learn lessons about the reality of life. If you practice the (bad) habit of omitting little things then eventually you'll start omitting bigger things as well.
Work on developing the character trait of facing reality and making yourself accountable to a higher process. Tracking everything will do this for you.0 -
I don't often track lettuce, it's like 10 calories a cup. I pretty much count most other veggies.0
