So looking for opinion or feelings what's better for weight loss low calories low carb high protein diet or low carb high protein minimum weight required calories some have told me eat less calories and higher protein were others are eat what is required in calories low low carbs and high protein .The reason o ask is I started doing insanity and get a lot of walking and lifting thru out the day, the books say for my calories burned I should be eating at least 600 calories each time I eat ,that seems way to much .I've checked out other calculators and get different reviews Please help any light shed on this would be much appreciated

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/819925-the-basics-don-t-complicate-itOur basic premise is that losing weight should not be that complicated. There is so much micromanaging that we see that misses the big picture of weight loss, which is the fundamental concept of the energy balance: if calories in are less than calories out, you will be in an energy deficit and will lose weight. Conversely, if calories in are more than are more than calories out, you will be in an energy surplus and will gain weight.
So, with that said:
- Eat within a reasonable caloric intake for your goals. (See http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/819055-setting-your-calorie-and-macro-targets for more details of setting this intake)
- Be accurate in your logging. See here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/872212-you-re-probably-eating-more-than-you-think
- Hit your macros for body composition (protein), energy (carbs) and healthy body function (fats) (see link above for more details on setting these)
- Resistance train to retain LBM on a caloric deficit or gain on a caloric surplus. Do cardio if you want.
- Rest
- Repeat
- Stop complicating it. Unless you have a medical condition that indicates otherwise, you do not have to eat ‘clean’, restrict a food group, restrict a macro, cleanse, detox, time your meals, or anything else to lose weight. Eat a diet that comprises nutrient dense foods and enjoy treats as long as they fit into your macros (see also http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/817188-iifym ).
- Be patient
- Eat ice-cream every day...okay, you don't have to do that one, but there is no reason you cannot. The point is, dieting is hard enough, don't over complicate it or make it harder than it has to be.

This is a cmoplicated post but I will give you what I think is an ok anwer.
1. Calories are the base for losing weight so regardless of macros you need to set your calories to a number with a deficit for loss. I think this post is really great for explaining things and helping you calculate your numbers if you need guidance in that area:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/974888-in-place-of-a-road-map-2k13
2. Sometimes you just have to try a diet and see how you like it, the low carb stuff works great for alot of people, I hate it; makes me feel crummy and I personally did not see any difference in my loss with more of fewer carbs at the same calorie deficit.
3. It does not really matter how you break your calories up throughout the day, just as long as you are getting around your goal. Some people eat alot in the AM and taper off, some people love a big dinner. Have not really seen proof of it effecting your loss.0 -

Choose what works for you, and whatever you can stick with. Diets don't work because when you get off them, you gain again. Good luck!0

Keep to your calorie goals. Take it easy on the refined carbs (sugar, white flour, white rice, ...) because they stimulate hunger. Eat "real food" and avoid processed crap where you can. Stick to the outer aisles of the supermarket.
That's about it.0 -

If I had to do it all over again, it would be low calories, lifting right from the get go and more protein. At first I did low calorie, nothing else. I wasted months.0

What's working for me is eating well balanced meals and snacks of any food under the sun except those which I am intolerant to, which is lactose and soy and caffeine.
Calorie are more important, because a calorie deficit is the only thing necessary to lose weight.0 -

Hi there. I believe in the simple "eat better and move more." So far its working. A good book im reading that changed the way i looked at foods i craved and gave into repeatedly. It;s called 'Made to Crave' by Lysa Terquerst and i recommend it. Goes far beyond calorie counting and just losing weight.
Best of health,
