High-rise pants/shorts

They are great for hipsters who like a little camel toe.0

I actually prefer pants and shorts that come up to my waist. I know, I'm weird.0
-
But some look good. A pencil skirt with a high waist can look amazing. Dress slacks would probably look good, as long as they look more Katherine Hepburn than Soccer Mom.
This.
Yup. I like 'em.0 -
High waisted with crop tops are gorg.

I love the look, honestly. Even before it was "trendy, " nothing beats that 40s/50s silhouette emphasized by a higher waist short.
However, I never see anyone rock it outside of skirts. I have a few shorts, but then I end up dragging them down to my hips because I'm SELF-CONSCIOUS.
AND YES, THEY'RE AA.0 -

This girl has a pretty straight butt-- how does she make it work, I wonder?0 -

In my opinion, she doesn't. 80s butt. Prime example. She looks good from the front, but it's a pancake back there (and I bet it isn't her actual body but the pants!)0 -

Yip yip!!! ETA: Examining her posture, looks like she's standing a bit slanted with her butt in. Hard to tell
In other news, I love her hair!! Mine's almost that long0 -

The 40s were WAY better than the 80s versions.

I love them. They keep love handles from hanging over. I'm wearing a pair right now, and went out and bought more just in the case the fad ends soon.
Plus, it doesn't really matter how they look because unless you have a crop top, they look like normal pants.0 -

I don't usually wear them. But, I did have a pair custom made for me by a costume designer for a dance performance I was in. And they looked nice. The material was fully moveable for dancing in, but they looked like jeans. And the shirt I wore ended up covering the top, except for in certain moments when the shirt pulled up, such as one part when I had to slowly roll down a flight of stairs. So, they were actually good for that because it kept me looking nice, even when rolling down stairs.0

It just depends on your body type. I can't wear skinny jeans, but can appreciate the style on people that can pull it off.
i.e. Just because it's on trend, doesn't mean everyone should wear it!0 -
I prefer jeans/pants/shorts that cover my butt. Wearing jeans that hit my waist keep me from having a muffin top.0
-
Yay!

I like them in that they hide the loose skin instead of having a roll of flub sitting on top of the waistband. My tops would cover the high waist so it wouldn't give me the long butt. Now to find a pair with a high enough waist...0
-
Okay. I'll stop now. Maybe.0 -
That is good news. It means I wont have to wear a belt to fight the pull of gravity on my pants.0
-
Yay!
Love me some Urkel.0 -
Walking down the street,
something caught my eye..
a growing epidemic that really ain't fly
a middle aged lady
I gotta be blunt...
her spandex biker shorts were creepin' up the front
I could see her uterus
her pants were too tight
she must'nt own panties
there were none in sight
she walked right by - the poor woman didn't know
she had a frontal wedgie - a Camel Toe0 -
Ugh I hate them...they look fine on people in magazines and whatnot but all of the people I've seen wearing them in real life look terrible. Particularly when they're cut into jean shorts, there's a terrible trend here right now (well, this past summer) where people were cutting them off so high that you could practically see their a*s cheeks hanging out, so it always looked like someone grabbed the waist of their pants and yanked to give them a full front and back wedge lol. Not a flattering look.0

They look so cute on you!!0 -
No way. I love my low rise jeans/work pants/shorts. I only wear form-fitting tops and low cut pants (but not too low; I keep it approps). I am not in favor of the flowy tops either because I don't want people wondering if it's maternity or not. I have done the maternity thing with 3 kids so now I can fully enjoy form fitting (even more so since toning up).0

High-rise pants and shorts are coming back in style. I've always been averse to them, cause I've always hated the 40's/80's fashion, but what do you all think? I'm starting to reconsider my stance on this
At five feet tall, with an hour glass body shape and a longish torso I have worn high-rise pants all my life because I look better in them than in anything else....lol. But I do agree that many people don't know how to wear them, don't have the shape for them and look ridiculous....but then again that is true for all styles.0 -
I have the mommy pooch so definitely no. Those higher styles just hug my lower belly fat and would just showcase it.0
-
I think the high waisted styles can be flattering IF they fit properly. They probably won't work as well for someone with a shorter torso though since they seem to elongate the legs the torso would end up looking even shorter. Of course this is just an opinion. The best way to find out is to go find a pair you like and try them on.
Edit: I always picture them more in the 40's style than the 80's.
I have a comparatively long torso and short legs (I say comparatively because all of me is short, but my legs are relatively even shorter) and this particular cut of trousers looks absolutely terrible on me. I find it really hard to find trousers with the right kind of cut for me, because hipster cut is too low and regular cut is too high. if this cut is coming back into fashion then that's only going to make it harder. *sigh*
I'm sure they look great on the right body type though. Just that's not me...0
