from personal experience you dont physically get taller, however being less rotund and more stalk like (haha) you appear taller. people think i have grown. lol. i wish. x0
-
no, unless you are an obese child waiting for growth spurt!
that said, losing weight gives confidence,, one walks tall with head held high when one is not trying to become invisible!LOL0 -
Only bad thing about losing weight is it makes it easier for the aliens to abduct you. ;-)0

It's all good, it's been a fun little topic on a Saturday night :-) Thanks for the entertainment and topic!!!0 -
lol I had this same question, But people who lose a lot of weight seem to look taller but I think thats just because they are confident and stand taller.0

My friend said she got an inch taller after she did yoga for some time. I shrunk an inch so maybe I should try that.0

I hope all of this is true!!! I'm about 5'11 and want to be 6' so bad! But I already have really good posture. Time will tell I guess.0

not to pop anyone's bubble, but it was the other way round for me. went from 5'7 to 5'60

It's an optical illusion. A good one though. You are not as wide, so you appear to be taller. Works for me!0
-
I look taller as I'm now less spherical :laugh:0

I gained about an inch from improved posture, but I didn't "grow".0

Totally! My mate was 5ft then lost 3 stone and is now just under 6ft!
Really?....0 -
Remembered one of my family members
telling me I grew 2 inches taller! woh,0 -
This post just made me smile!0

No lol. But it might make you appear taller with slimmer limbs.0
-
I think that I *look* taller because my legs are slimmer. But no, you will not actually get taller from losing weight.
Yeah, this exactly.
I have always been 5'8" and after losing over 100 lb I'm still 5'8". I just APPEAR taller because my limbs look much longer, and also my reach is longer and my stride has changed. Extra fat padding out your body can make you look shorter in my opinion. I think it's an overall body proportion thing.
But no, you probably won't BE taller unless as others have said, you had terrible posture before and it improves. And then it's still a case of standing taller (not a true increase in your height).0 -
short is sexy. Don't grow0

Several years ago I went from 5'4" to 5'5" after losing 180 lbs (thank you gastric bypass!). I have regained 30 lbs but my height has stayed the same. (I'll take the BMI win, thank you very much!) I imagine it is just that my spine isn't as compressed (my weight was mostly in the belly). But yep, I "grew" at the fine old age of 36.0

I found this thread interesting. I've always been just under 5'5 ever since high school. Now I just went to 2 doctors visits in the past month and am 5'6. Dr said something about your spine compressing when you're carrying more weight & posture. Dunno. All I know is that my BMI went down overnight0
