Juicing vs. Smoothies - a Difference in Benefits?

I keep seeing the benefits of juicing in books and documentaries such as, "Fat, Sick & and Nearly Dead". However I rarely see smoothies being mentioned. Am I missing something? I'm under the thinking the additional fiber in smoothies would be a plus.

I think the same way. If you want more fruits and veggies in your diet then eat more fruits and veggies. At least by making a smoothie you're getting all the fiber instead of just making sugar water.
Maybe you could have a new career. Make a documentary about drinking smoothies and sell over priced blenders!0 -
With juicing you get all the vitamins and nutrients from whatever you are juicing, but unlike smoothies, you lose the fiber content. Basically, when juicing you can pack a whole lot in a small package- you can turn a whole bag of spinach into a cup of liquid- add a couple berries and it covers the flavor, whereas a smoothie with a whole bag of spinach may not be too easy on the palate. I suggest a healthy combo- juice the veggies that you are trying to use for the nutrients (spinach, kale, beets, carrots, etc) and then whip them up in a smoothie with berries, ice, maybe some low fat yogurt. I juice as things need to be used up, pop them in an ice tray, and have what I need ready to go when I want to mix up a smoothie!1
