What's the general consensus on this? I tend to drink coffee in between breakfast and lunch. I'll usually have 2 cups with caffeine and maybe one more decaf. I put only a small amount of creamer and sweetener. It really helps me keep my appetite in check until lunchtime (I don't tend to be a snacker but more of a 3 solid meals type). I also drink tons of water. Is this a bad habit though?

Coffee is fine. Just don't over-do on the creamer and sugar.
  • Yes, coffee is fine... Try and drink decaf all the time with skim milk and splenda! If you need the caffeine to stay alert, etc. then try decreasing it to one cup instead of two.

Just make sure you drink plenty of water as coffee can dehydrate you slightly.

Skip the Splenda there have been some new reports that say Splenda in certain amounts can actually inhibit weight loss! Crazy huh?If you have to have something try honey, Its healthier and sweet so you wont need alot.
  • I agree....just watch your creamer and maybe use a calorie sweetner. I bought sugar free vanilla caramel powder creamer and I dont even need to add splenda. Its actually just sweet and creamy enough that it almost tastes like a latte. Enjoy your coffee...thats one thing this girl cant give up! I usually count my coffee calories as my snack for midmorning and 2 cups is under 100 calories so I dont feel guilty!

So honey instead of sugar? I may have to try that...

The coffee isn't the problem....it's what you put in it. I like a bit of cream in mine, no sugar thanks. I found that the Land O Lakes LOW FAT half and half works best for me. 25 cals per 2 tablespoons. The non fat half and half just didn't hit the creaminess that I like, and had some other chemical goop in it. You can always try the milk route, or the powdered creamer route. Really it is going to come down to your preference.... just make sure you log it. I usually have 2-3 cups in the morning, and maybe a couple cups of decaf in the evening.

You can have the coffee....just watch what you add to it. Try to drink an extra glass of water for each cup to counteract the diuretic properties of the caffine.

    :drinker:

If you are going the honey route, try Agave nectar!

I love coffee! But have read it is one of the most heavily sprayed crops, caffeine can adversely affect the endocrine system, and as we all experience, it dehydrates you (your body treats caffeine as poison)

So, I try to limit it to special occasions, organic decaf (sometimes a shot of caffeine) with a little stevia.

I find I feel better all the time when I quit coffee completely. Why burden your liver, kidneys, and pancreas with those toxins/caffeine?
