Exercise Beginner Hear Needs Help!!

I am really wanting to get into exercising. There are a couple of problems I have. First I don't have a full trachea opening so sometimes my breathing isn't the best. I do not want that to hold me back. I've had one operation and will have another soon on it. I am also pretty heavy so I am in no way going to be running marathons soon! However, I love to walk and am trying to do so each day. However, I'd like to change it up. Can anyone recommend any workouts dvd, wii, etc that would be good for me. I read a lot about Jillian Michaels on here and Biggest Loser. My niece has Biggest Loser on the wii and am thinking of trying it. I could really use all the help I can get. Any suggestions?

Personally, I think you should check with your doctor. Walking is a great start, and I don't think ANYONE would not recommend that. I know someone who lost ALL of her weight simply by walking daily. Some of the videos like Jillian and even Biggest Loser are really tough. I would not recommend them for someone just starting out. Check with your doctor though, they will set you up with a good regime!

Personally, I started exercising just by walking as mentioned above-my doctor said even 10 minutes helps. I recently purchased a recumbent stationary bicycle to use at home. I like it because it's easy on my knees and supports my back. My friend has a cool exercise pedaler that sits on the floor and you sit on a chair or the couch and pedal away-she loves it and it was fairly inexpensive-its just a small stand with two pedals. Start slow with a little exercise throughout the day and you'll be surprised how quickly your fitness improves. Best of luck to you!0

I would definitely consult your DR. I find the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home videos to be a nice change from walking.0

Thanks for all of your input! I will be sure to check with my doctor. I really like that stationary bike idea. I don't have a lot of extra room in my house for exercise equipment so that is a nice solution!0

if you have any areas of the house where you have stairs or a step up or down spend a few minutes a day on that. if not try an areobic step (it fits great under the bed and has tons of work out options). It is in expensive too. i use mine durring commercials of my evening shows. also try doing like a minute of jumping jacks before your walk to raise your heart rate more and hopefully your walk will let you keep it elevated. take things slow and easy and listen to your body. Also going to see your doctors is the best place to start. good luck0
