Very new with Hypothyroidism

Hey y'all! I'm a new comer and I'm hoping to start working out soon and getting healthier!
22 years old
Marine wife
Mother of a little one.
and.... HYPO!!

Does anyone have great recommendations on what works and what doesn't in our special case?
Any great books to read to educate food habits with hypo?
I know the mental and physical symptoms, but just lacking on the diet part.

    Real food.
I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, and when I eat a high carb/sugar/junk diet (which hypo makes you crave) I feel like ish...
So, I focus on eating as much protein and veggies as I can knowing that by doing so I'll have less room for foods that make me feel like crap.
Now, I have WAY more energy and the brain fog is gone!
    Good luck with your journey.

You should join the Hypo/Hyperthyroidism board at MFP:

Two good sources of information for me have been:

    http://thyroid.about.com/

    http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

I find that my metabolism is a bit slow (even when I am properly medicated, which was a 10-year struggle). Foods such as soy and almonds cause my nodules to flare up, and some people are sensitive to the phytoestrogens in soy (it cancels out thyroid hormone).

Send me a friend request if I can help in any way. :-)
  • I am Hypothyroid. The Virgin Diet is a good starting point--you can find the list of forbidden foods for free on the internet. It's three weeks of cleaning out all the bad stuff, but totally worth the sacrifice. Gluten-Free will help you feel better. Get a list of foods from the internet that block thyroid function and start eliminating them from your diet. Medication helps, but you have to do your part to get back to normal or should I say the new normal. Good luck and you can do it!
