Go outside and run up and down a hill for an hour.

    Good calorie burn.

Now ask yourself what your goals really are? Then ask yourself if battling ropes aids in those goals.

Picking exercises based on calorie burn is a serious case of f&ckarounditis. Be specific in your goals and then you'll make intelligent exercise choices.

Yes, I just got back from my doctors appointment and I'm down -5.5 pounds with a blood pressure of 114/75. Not bad for being diagnosed as diabetic in 2005. I'm to the point that I have four workouts that I rotate 3 days a week, the toughest one being with battle rope and using kettle bells during the active rest period.

Any type of training can provide fitness benefits, but, as a rule, exercises that feature primarily arm work are not the most efficient burners. They feel harder than they are, because most people are not endurance trained for those muscles and heart rate is inflated during arm work.
