Anyone else getting healthy before starting a family?

Hi. My name's Meg and I'm 28. Originally from California, I live in Germany now. I'm an English Teacher.

I would love to meet some new people for support on here- I'm rarely in these forums (use the app mostly) but I can be super supportive on walls and messages :)

I have some serious fertility issues (not PCOS or weight-related though- for which I've seen a few forum posts) and am trying to get healthy before IVF in March. I have a boatload of medications and hormones adding to the weight-loss challenge, and sometimes making me a moody wreck. Luckily the dh is amazing. :)

I'm just wondering if there are any others out there with similar extra considerations, and heading in the family direction. I have a wonderful family, but sometimes it's nice to meet people with the same experiences.

Anyhow, feel free to add me (whether you fit these specifications or not). If you are struggling with, or trying to encourage, an eating disorder please don't add me. As a teen I struggled briefly (a year plus treatment) and don't support those habits.

P.S. my goal is about 65kg (140 ish). I'm at 73.8 now. These numbers are approximations. I want to be strong and healthy :)

Edit for more details: I had hodgkins's lymphoma and have chemo-related fertility problems. Anyone facing similar? Also, would love friends who have kids, want kids, are kids at heart, or don't want but were once kids.

I am also trying to get in better shape to improve my chances of getting pregnant. I have a mild case of PCOS and I am not crazy overweight but enough that I know I would be risking gestational diabetes and the like. I also lived in Germany as a kid. Feel free to add me if you'd like. I'm not on the forms much either. I do read friends news feed daily though. :)

Hi Meg! I'm a French teacher who lives in England (I am English).

I'm actually 16 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby, but I put on a lot with my 2nd (she's now 2.5) and I wanted to lose it all before becoming pregnant again. I managed to get down to 154lbs (see profile pic) which is about 14lbs lighter than I was before I got pregnant with my first child in 2008.

So my aim now is to minimise weight gain and hopefully not resemble a huge beached whale next April

    Good luck with the Ivf!

    Hey Meg -
My husband and I have been married a little over a year and a half now and are just starting to get serious about trying to have a family - so that is a big chunk of my motivation to get in shape - I figure the healthier I am, the healthier a hopeful future pregnancy will be! Plus if I can't get it together before kids then heaven help me when I do have them!!! Need to get those healthy habits going before then :) Good luck in your journey and feel free to add me if you want to.
  • Hi Meg! My husband and I have been trying for almost 2 years for a baby. We've already had some fertility tests, and it looks like my husband's sperm has low mobility. So, now we'll be starting to explore our other options.
I've struggled with my weight all my life, but now I'm super committed to loosing the extra kilos, as I believe that I'll be able to have a healthier /easier pregnancy and of course to have a healthy baby.
    Good luck in your journey!
I've sent you a friend request.
