    There is evidence in rats that high intensity artificial sweeteners induce weight gain. There are other mitigating factors, but for me, after reading this study, I would avoid using artificial sweeteners (I do anyway, because they don't agree with me).

    Not at all true. And at the very least, it is worth taking into consideration.
    If we're taking about aspartame, I haven't yet encountered a study where rats were used and the same results ended up the same in humans. If you have one, please link it.

    Are you being purposely obtuse? I was responding to your blanket statement that 'studies in rats don't seem to have the same results in humans'. This is patently false.

    For me it feeds the junk food machine. I'm better off eating natural fruit sugars, it stops me craving that really sweet delicious binge food.

    A Snickers Bar has 27 g of sugar and 1 g of fiber. An apple has 18 g of sugar and 4 g of fiber. An apple has four times the fiber and two-thirds the sugar of a Snickers Bar, but that's not the problem. Multiply that by one Snicker's Bar a day and the subsequent spike and crash that many people experience and that's the problem. I don't believe that any food is inherently bad, I just don't accept that every food is equal in terms of nutrition and how my body responds after eating it.

    You seem quite confused---An EKG is a measurement of heart rhythm (heart electrical activity). This cannot diagnose seizures. A CAT scan shows images of the brain (or any other body part)--which also cannot diagnose seizures. Neither can an MRI, which is a better study to image the brain (where seizures originate).

    You are obviously not a scientist nor have any expertise in analyzing medical studies, and seem to put great emphasis on what personally happened to you and what you have heard from others. However, given that, just because something bad happened to you, your friends, or somebody that you heard about, doesn't mean it can be generalized to everybody else. I understand that you strongly believe what you believe, but until you get a further education in scientific studies, how the body works, and metabolism of these small chemicals, those of us who do have that expertise will not take you seriously no matter how vehement you are.

    No my doctor couldn't believe the diagnosis because I was diagnosed at age 5 in 1983 after having an EKG and cat scan that clearly indicated that I was epileptic. At that time donahu had a show on stating that 1 in 10 children was having reactions to nutra sweet. My dad happen a crossed it and realize that he was giving me nutra sweet in the form of coolaid. My pediatrician said it couldn't be and sent he for another EKG and cat scan which then confirmed I did not have epilepsy. It was at that time that the neurologist confirmed it was the nutra sweet. My rest of the family has had some form of reaction to it. I have known other people not related to me that had migraines and memory loss from it. My husband which knows the dangers has issues with it, So don't tell me that I don't have the documentation to back it. Snopes will say anything as long as it sided for the government who is behind this. You wanted documentation I gave you the first 4 out of 1000's. You research it, the reason he had trouble believing it is because my problems started with the introduction into drinks which if you read the research was two years after it was approved. I believe. There were no real scientific evidence being brought to light at that time so nothing for my physicians to go on. There have been many studies since the. That showed all this information not by just mercola but by others,

    Then we're on different lines. My referral to rats was on the studies done with aspartame. That's what we're taking about here right?
