So, I don't have a thyroid due to having it removed because of cancer. I need help with knowing what foods benefit me and what foods harm me, beside the obvious sugars fats and etc. When I was here before eating healthy and exercising I only lost 4 lbs and 4 in. in 7 months, I had to have been doing something wrong, or eating something that wasn't good for a person in my situation.

You should speak with your doctor or a registered dietician who deals with thyroid patients.0

I had ablation due to Grave's Disease and am on levothyroxine pills. If you are on the correct dosage of synthetic hormone, all you need do is follow the same healthy diet and exercise program as the average person. I have been this way for more than 4 years now and have never had trouble losing weight unless my hormone levels were off (such as when I got pregnant). Talk to your endocrinologist if you have concerns.0

Unfortunately, this is the best advice we can really offer. A dietitian can help you with meal plans too.0 -

I agree with this as I have Hashimotos. Diet wise, I feel that carbs and sugar needs to be controlled for us, but its true for anyone.
Calculate your TDEE (http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/) and subtract 20% from it for daily intake. adjust your macros for 40% carbs/30%protein/30%fat.0 -
I am in the exact same situation as you. We're lucky in that goitrogens (various types of foods that can POTENTIALLY cause further issues with already malfunctioning thyroids) don't do anything to us.
All you have to watch out for are foods high in iron, calcium and Vitamin C 1-2 hours before and after taking your pill. This can affect absorption.
In regards to weight loss, nothing you need to do differently. Some endos suggest carbs of 180g or lower, but calories in vs. calories out is the same thing thing for you and I as it is for someone else.
Sugar, fats, etc. don't harm you anymore than they harm someone else, unless you have a specific condition with your gallbladder, insulin, etc. Thyroid issues don't have any connection with sugars or fats.
Check with your endo to hear the same thing.
If you had trouble losing before, your levels may have been off and a dosage (or even pill) change might be necessary. Otherwise, user errors like underestimating calories eaten or overestimating calories burned could be responsible.
Plus, you DID lose 4 lbs. For not perfectly treated thyroid levels, losing can be much slower. You don't need to cut calories further--you just need to be more patient.0
