Any one using the plate plnnning system. Where you divide yor plate into 3 section 1/2 of plate for non starches veggies, 1/4 for protein and 1/4 for starches veggies or bread . A fruit and a glass of milk on the ouside of plate. I started this plan today. seems pretty simple.. my Health Insurance sent me this plan. so I said what the heck I will give it a try. I think it will help me. At least I hop so.

Yup, I've done this before. Dr. Phil, in his "The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution" says to mentally divide a plate into four sections. One is for protein, one for a starchy vegetable, one for a non-starchy vegetable, and one for fruit. It's so easy, and he gives recommendations for serving sizes, i.e., for protein no more than palm of hand or a deck of cards (sheesh, that's small), etc. His book is worth reading, in my opinion. Following his sensible eating plan, PLUS exercise, I lost 52 pounds. He never measures or counts a thing.
For what it's worth.....:flowerforyou:0 -
Hi
I actually use portion control plates. The plate is divided into 3 sections - 1/2 for vegies, 1/4 for protein and 1/4 for carbs (limiting starchy carbs). I have found this very useful. They are available online.

Toddler plates often come like this, I saved one from when the kids were small, I going to use it when the kids leave home, because they will make fun of me.0

When I was diagnosed with diabetes my nutritional educator gave me a plate to shows this and even has suggestions for serving sizes...very cool. I still try to refer to it for all my meals! My kids like to use it sometimes too which is cool because then they load up on all those veggies I normally have to nag at them to eat0

I got something like that from my Insurance company about a year or two ago as well and have saved it. It's a cardboard circle and has an example similar to what you shared and I've found it really helpful. Something about seeing it visually has helped it really stick in my head. To see it divided up and then know I'm doing about the same makes me realize how much I've learned over time in eating healthier.
I think it's awesome the insurance companies are doing that sort of thing because that helps us to realize what we're eating and how to portion it out and *what* we're putting on our plates is making a difference in our health at least I've found this to be true. It saves us money in the end, them, and of course we feel and look great with less health issues.0 -
Thanks all for your resonse. It encourage me. i made it fine today. I still have a fruit and milk left for my bedtime snack. My blood sugar has stayed on track. My portion controlled is one of my problems. If I can get it undercontrol I think I can turn this fat around.
Thanks again.0 -
That is the basics of the plan my doctor recommended. I do do the plate dividing thing at every meal, and stick to fruit for most of my snacks.
So far its working fabulously for me. I've taken off almost 30 pounds in 2.5 months.
But the best part is I never feel hungry, and its not complicatd. I just need to spend a bit more time planning my meals, and planning my shopping.0 -
One of the many things that helped me (and hubby) was getting new plates. I had read somewhere that your plate shouldn't be more than 10 inches in diameter. So, armed with a tape measure, hubby and I set out to buy new dishes.
We bought a set that included dinner plates and salad plates. The salad plates measured a perfect 10!! That's what we use for our meals. The dinner plates are put up and only used if needed. Mostly, the dinner plates get used to microwave foods.
In measuring foods out, the correct portion of meat takes about 1/4 of the salad plate. The veggies fill about half and what's left is perfect for that "dessert/carb/fruit."
As humans, we tend to be visual creatures...especially, with foods. I know this is a fact because it happened to hubby. He used a dinner plate to serve up his meal one night when he couldn't find the salad plates. He said he knew it was the same amount of food as usual, but because of the larger plate, he felt cheated of food.
I found it's been well worth the money and time spent.
Hope this helps and good luck!!0 -
There is a product called a "Meal Measure" that you can buy... it is hard plastic and sits atop your plate. You fill the compartments (perfectly portioned already) and then lift off the Meal Measure and viola- your perfectly measured foods are on your plate. I thought it looked kinda cool- but I used measuring cups and a food scale and it only takes seconds.0
