Lost 9lbs in 3 days?

Hello, newbie here.

So I recently started a diet three days ago because, well, I want to lose weight! I started out at 14st 9lbs three days ago, and this morning I weighed 14st exactly (which is around 197 lbs I believe?).

The first day I had a water fast, and the second two days I have been eating healthy. I usually start out with a small bowl of porridge with fruit on the morning, have a snack midday (usually fruit and some greek yoghurt) and for dinner I have chicken/vegetables. I have also treated myself to chocolate each night alongside peppermint tea.

I guess this is just water weight and will slow down in a few days? I definitely need to incorporate some exercise, but should I be worried about losing 9lbs in 3 days? Should I continue my simple eating/small portion diet and see what happens?

I want to get down to 170lbs, hopefully. I'm a guy and 6ft 1, in case anyone is wondering.

PS not sure if I had to introduce myself here first or not. :')

According to your stats 197lbs 6'1" 18yrs old you:

Maintain your current weight at 2517 calories per day with zero exercise.

From what you are describing as your food intake, I'd estimate it's roughly around 1000-1200 calories per day. This is not enough food, especially for a male, and especially for such a young tall male. You're running an extremely high calorie deficit.

What made you believe you had to follow such a diet program to lose weight? It's really difficult for the human body to oxidize more than 1-2lbs per week of body fat, everything else that is lost will be lean muscle mass. The sudden 9lb drop is most likely due to that "water fast" you did which allowed most the waste to be removed from your bowels, as well as the glycogen stores(each glycogen carries 3parts water) that your body dumped (water weight) from the sudden decrease in food supply.

I'd highly recommend setting up the MFP app correctly and eating all of the calories it gives you. I would set it to lose between 1-1.5lbs per week MAX, you don't have enough to lose to go for 2lbs, it's too aggressive.

My beau started using MFP to track calories and ate within his calorie goal and lost quite a bit of weight in the first few weeks, then it slowed down.

Some people lose weight quickly at first and some don't. There are many factors that come into play, such as genetics, metabolism, etc.

You can exercise if you want but it's not necessary to lose weight. However, if you do chose to exercise, you will need to eat those calories back as much as you can because your goal is to NET whatever calorie allowance MFP has given you.

You have little weight to lose. Set your MFP goals to lose .5 pounds a week so it comes off slower.
