I have made all of these mistakes at some time or another...

Article by Mike Matthews: http://www.muscleforlife.com/5-common-fitness-mistakes-to-avoid/

Here are the highlights/mistakes:

1. Focusing on high-rep “burnout” workouts.
2. Doing too many isolation exercises, and too few compound exercises.
3. Following silly dietary protocols instead of regulating caloric intake.
4. Failing to progressively overload my muscles.
5. Not tracking my progress.

1 is interesting, and I think it touches on on the overall themes of "less is more" and "your body improves when it's at rest." It was definitely something that held me back for a while. I was killing myself in terms of volume but had no overarching purpose or program and, not surprisingly, saw no real results. I was just constantly tired, injured, and stressed out.

It wasn't until I was legitimately TRAINING for something (fat loss and strength gains, in my case) and getting adequate rest that I noticed real improvements.
