Winter Tires

I have to start shopping for winter tires because we get snow like crazy where I live and we have a lot of steep hills going to and from my house so I wanted to see if anyone could recommend a good snow tire that has great traction and handling in snow AND ice?

I have used the Bridgestone Blizzak W70's in the past but they're out of stock and can run up to $600 after mount and install, so I'm looking for something that is fairly comparable and better priced.

    Toyota Camry
  • FireStone WinterForce are good, I have them on my Mazda 3. A little louder than the Blizzak but they grip well, and BridgeStone and FireStone have the same parent company. Michelin Destiny are also quite good. My old man has them on his Lexus RX400h and they run very very smooth and quiet

I've been driving on Michelin X-Ice for a few years and had to replace them this year. At the tire store they recommended the X-Ice over the Blizzaks even though they cost a little less (maybe they have a higher margin on the Michelins?)

I had Firestone WinterForce for two years they seemed to do well. I have a Cobalt and it is generally terrible in the snow. I went with BridgeStone Potenza this year as they had a nice sale in August. However, so far in limited testing they don't seem to be no where near the traction of the WinterForce.

We don't get much of a harsh winter here but, if I lived in northern states, I would look into something like this.....
