I've always wondered if people across the pond knew the names of the United States. Admittedly, I think some of these may have actually been labeled by Americans...

It's safe to say that Texas and California are the only states important enough to remember....

And New York, when it's not Virginia.

Name them, in alphabetical order, absolutely. Did it to shut up a kiwi making fun of the american education system. Place them on a map? I think I could manage 75%.....

    Not sure what that means.

But even Martians heard of Virginia around a 100 years ago thanks to John Carter.

In the article a person said they had "been here, if that's New York" but it was labeled on Virginia.

A lot of people forget my state. I lived in Maryland for a few years, which BORDERS West Virginia, and there were people there who didn't know it was a state.

This reminded me of this street interviewing comedian who went to one of those anti immigration rallies and had like a couple of people not be able to point out Mexico on the map.

Hell was reading an article yesterday about 75% of high school seniors don't know the capital of Canada. Hell, I bet a couple of Americans reading this will need to Google it (you are welcome for me helping educate you a little , the more you know!).

Meh, there's no way I could label anything in the UK.... I think they didn't do that bad, considering how awful my attempt would be at labeling the UK lol

A guy in Texas once asked me "What state is Canada in"?

    Well... Where is it?
  • when we were in grade 5 we had to learn the names of all the states. (I'm not american btw) I may not know exactly where all of them are, but I can name them. I have American friends that can't name all of them and don't know where all of them are.

however, I have Canadian friends that can't name all of their 10 provinces and three territories (they blame the changing political structure)

and european friends that can't name all of the countries in Europe.

I think we're always going to have that sliding scale no matter where we come from. Some know, some don't. Some need it to succeed, some don't.

I guess saying around 1300 miles might've been an advanced concept depending on age.

Not anymore. I can recite the verbs of being though.

Used to know all the presidents up to Carter too.
