How many calories should I REALLY be eating for INSANITY?

This is my first post! So I'm not sure if I am eating the correct number of calories in order to loose weight doing the INSANITY Program. I'm a 25 year old female and currently weigh 115 lbs, and I'm trying to loose weight. My only form of exercise is the INSANITY Program, and I am following the eating plan to a tee as far as not eating outside of the recipes. My job is a desk job, so I'm not on my feet a whole lot. According to my heart rate monitor, for month 1 I'm burning around 350-450 calories depending on the workout. I had my calorie goals set at around 1300, is this correct? It seems a bit on the low side. Also, how important is it for me to eat the full amount of my calorie goal? I have that stubborn 5-7lbs that reside around my belly and my bum, but I thought that I need to always eat at least the 1300, or else my body will chow down on my lean muscle, which isn't very cool for my body or weight loss goals. Just trying to understand everything! One calculator put me at 1500 calories which I would honestly prefer, but for right now I understand that weight loss isn't really concerned with my "personal preferences". Thank you for taking the time to read this!

not sure how tall you are but we are about the same. and i'm eating 1800 calories. did you use the insanity caluclator?
  • I'm 5'3, and yes I've used their formula, but I feel like I'm not interpreting it correctly. Their method asks what my day job is, which is why I mentioned that I work at a desk. Because of that, apparently I live a "sedentary lifestyle", even though I am busting my *kitten* every day during these workouts. Other calorie calculators for INSANITY automatically place me into the moderate-very active category, *because* I'm doing INSANITY. So the discrepancy lies with whether or not my low activity level outside of the program qualifies me as sedentary, which I don't feel is correct.

Current weight x sedentary lifestyle (12) + avg. workout burn - 500 (for weight loss) = approximate daily caloric goal
    115 x 12 = 1,380 + 400 = 1,780 - 500 = 1,280 calories per day... Really?

i definitely put mostly active, not sedentary. i also work a desk job but i work out 6 days a week so im most def not considering myself sedentary
