Not Hungry?

Hello dear fitness friends,
What do you eat when you just aren't hungry, but need to catch up to your calories?

    Ice cream.

    Almonds.

How many calories do you need to catch up usually?

something calorie dense, like peanut or other nut butters, full-fat ice cream, cheese, avocados (make guacamole!), macadamia nuts or pecans

Nothing, I just make a note of it and eat them back another day when I am hungry ... It all balances out ...

If I am really not hungry I don't eat! Usually if that is the case and I am headed out somewhere I throw a snack in my bag because my hunger usually catches up with me.

If I have extra calories at the end of the day I pretty much always eat ice cream or a single beer.
  • If I've eaten less than 1200 calories I'll have a mug of Nesquik, some yoghurt with honey and berries, or one or two biscuits.

If I've eaten over 1200 and am not hungry, will just leave it be.

I only ever end up with extra calories on a gym day. If I burn off 250, I just don't feel 250 calories of hunger. I did have a 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter last night, which was amazingly amazing. For me to keep to my diet, I try to only eat things I don't really like but don't hate. I forgot how much I like peanut butter.

I look for the yummiest treat that will go bad if I don't eat it soon. I hate throwing away yummy food. I have a piece of homemade pumpkin pie that HAS to be eaten in the next day or two.

Nuts or chips. Calorie dense foods with minimal sugar. Protein-ie. meat. Greek yogurt.

If its less than 100 calories from my goal I generally dont worry about it, but I have gone thru periods with a lack of appetite so I do force myself to try and meet my calorie goals for the day. I am active and my body requires fuel- hunger is a faulty sensor and most people misread anyways. If I ate only when I was hungry I would probably end up on 500 cals a day and that is just unhealthy. Lack of appetite can be triggered by low magnesium and probably other nutrient deficiencies too. Only half of my intake comes from my diet, half comes from my multivitmamin. Since I started taking the multi again, my appetite is better and so is my enegry level. That could just be me, but it is noticeable.

This... I tend to watch my calories over the entire week, not just by day. And there are some days where I don't meet 1200 but others where I"m closer to 1500... so it all eventually works out :) As long as I keep those 1500's in check, lol.

When I was actively trying to lose, as long as I'd eaten a reasonable amount (which was always >1200), I wouldn't eat if I had leftover calories and wasn't hungry. I figured that gave me a little cushion for going over later in the week, which happened from time to time and I didn't stress about it.

Now that I'm in maintenance, I usually go for a goodie like a cookie or a drink at the end of the night if I have the extra cals. Or last night I had 150 left and Thanksgiving is tomorrow, so I didn't worry about eating to get to goal because I can use it tomorrow for pie! Yeah pie!
