SO Happy I Bought a HRM!

After 2 years of consistent work outs, I finally caved a bought a Polar FT4 heart rate monitor. I just started using it and I have to say that I'm SO SO happy that I did. It's made me realize that the numbers I was logging previously for calories burnt during exercise based on what the machines told me was pretty inaccurate. Since I'm someone who generally eats my calories back for the day, it's been really eye opening to me to realize that I wasn't burning as many calories as I'd thought and therefore I was probably over-eating on certain days without meaning to.

If anyone is thinking about buying one but has been hesitant to pull the trigger, just do it!! You'll be happy you did.... I promise. :)

I've been using one for years, it helps me maintain and ensure I'm eating enough, I usually cannot eat enough to match burn but it's close. The Zephyr I use with my android matches within 5 percent of machines and about the same with my Garmin which I recently started using on rides. As long as your age, height, weight and gender inputs are right the calorie burn should be close to accurate.

Love my FT4, had it for years, but now Im getting a FT80 for Christmas!
  • Yeah, all of my stats in my heart rate monitor are correct. I used to put in my weight on the cardio machines I used as well (treadmill, elliptical, etc.) but my heart rate monitor gives me a number that's usually anywhere between 20 and 60 calories lower than what the machines would give. Seems small, but I think it can make a difference over a number of months. So glad I decided to get it!

I just bought an FT4 and find it so motivating! I used to have a regular HRM but it would only tell me if I was in the THR zones not the calories burned. I actually look forward to seeing how many calories I burn with my FT4!!
