Rest in peace, Madiba. Meeting you was a moment I will always treasure. You were a beacon to us all. May we follow your shining example.0

“People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”0

RIP Nelson Mandela, news I guess we've all expected this year but nonetheless deeply saddening.
A very special man.0 -
This has really made me cry. He was such an iconoclast for my generation.0

Respect to a great man, a great example, and a great leader.
95 years of such a wonderful man that the world is lucky to have known.
May he rest peacefully - my thoughts and prayers with his family0 -

I need to post this as it's such a core tune, I wish MFP enables YouTubes:

RIP Mr Mandela,
He was inspiring and a great leader and such a strong soul. Anyone who saw the movie "Invictus", although Hollywood, got a glimpse of his love of life and his sense of fun. And so proud when his Springboks won the 1995 Rugby World Cup against the All Blacks!! I'm a Kiwi and was cheering for the All Blacks but if they had to lose, I'm glad it was SA that won!!!! The poem, "Invictus" just captures his spirit beautifully......
Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

wow. i hadn't heard yet. i knew his health was deteriorating quite rapidly - i think he'd been hospitalized for awhile. he's off on the next great adventure.0

.....
Editing because as another poster suggested, not getting involved in a flame war on what should be a respectful post0 -

Absolutely. Agreed.0 -
I hadn't heard about this yet. RIP Madiba, you will be missed. Nkosi sikelel iafrika.0

He and his ilk have left a great tragedy, oops I mean a great legacy, the ANC, the wonderful third world country of SA, you know the one, the one that was the gem of Africa and of course, the way I want to go out necklacing.
There have been more whites and blacks killed since the ANC has taken over in 90s (over 20000) verses when aparteid was present from 1948-1994(less than 6000).
Oh dont forget the bombing he planned to kill children that got him thrown in prison in the first place.
Yeah, a great man. hmmmm
Tacky dude. Just tacky.0 -
RIP to a great human and leader. This is sad.0

Just posting to encourage other posters not to repost inflammatory posts on what ideally should be a respectful obituary thread.0

you are a pathetic human being. and im sure you are too much of a coward to say this to anyone's face who disagrees with you.0 -
there are very few people who have meant more to this world and humanity and who have inspired so many. this was the passing of a truly great man.0

It was an expected event but it is a sad one, and Nelson Mandela will forever be one of history's Great Persons, and we will never forget him. We have lost a great man today, but we must be thankful that we had him here in this mortal coil for 95 years.0
