Rest in peace, Madiba. Meeting you was a moment I will always treasure. You were a beacon to us all. May we follow your shining example.

RIP Nelson Mandela, news I guess we've all expected this year but nonetheless deeply saddening.
    A very special man.

This has really made me cry. He was such an iconoclast for my generation.

Respect to a great man, a great example, and a great leader.
95 years of such a wonderful man that the world is lucky to have known.
May he rest peacefully - my thoughts and prayers with his family

I need to post this as it's such a core tune, I wish MFP enables YouTubes:

    RIP Mr Mandela,

He was inspiring and a great leader and such a strong soul. Anyone who saw the movie "Invictus", although Hollywood, got a glimpse of his love of life and his sense of fun. And so proud when his Springboks won the 1995 Rugby World Cup against the All Blacks!! I'm a Kiwi and was cheering for the All Blacks but if they had to lose, I'm glad it was SA that won!!!! The poem, "Invictus" just captures his spirit beautifully......

    Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

    William Ernest Henley

    .....

Editing because as another poster suggested, not getting involved in a flame war on what should be a respectful post
