Thank you...............someone else that exhibits some common sense.

Thank you both for your truthful answers!!! Anytime you add something to plain water it alters the way the body will digest, use, absorb it!

Do you drink that much distilled water? Even distillation does not remove everything which is not hydrogen monoxide.

    .

Dihydrogen monoxide!! I don't advise taking in lots of OH-!!

Edit: here are the NHS guidelines.
    "
    How much should I drink?

Studies have tried to establish a recommended daily fluid intake, but it can vary depending on the individual and factors such as age, climate and physical activity.

Some UK-based studies recommend that adults should drink 1.2 litres (6-8 glasses of water) a day to replace lost fluids and prevent dehydration.

A good rule is to drink enough fluid so that you're not thirsty for long periods, and to steadily increase your fluid intake when exercising and during hot weather.

You should drink plenty of fluid if you have symptoms of dehydration, such as feeling thirsty and lightheaded, or passing dark-coloured urine. It is also important to replace fluid lost after an episode of diarrhoea."

In short, there is no need to drink a lot of water if you are not thirsty. If your urine is a pale yellow, it indicates you are not dehydrated, and that's all that matters. The source of H2O doesn't really matter either, although some drinks are slightly less better at hydrating due to a diuretic effect (and have calories besides).

So when you add a tea bag, it isn't H2O anymore? What is it?

And why can't I count it if it's tea, but I can count it if I drink the water and eat the teabag after?

You are not that dense. It is tea. Not water. Do you normally drink brown water???? Green water??? NO, you drink tea or coffee or such. Water is used to make those things.

You are just acting ignorant to start an argument. Ignorance on these forums. You all have driven all the good folk away.

It is made with water but it can't be counted as water because water is merely one of the ingredients as it is altered the moment you add the tea bag. You can't say you are drinking water because you are drinking TEA.

You all do what you want to do. I will continue doing what my mom's kidney Dr always told her and what my dietician and my Dr's now tell me.

    I drink ohhh .. maybe 20 oz of "water only" a day. I'm well-hydrated.

Tea and water are functionally equivalent.

No. I'm asking you to explain to me, if it is no longer H2O, what is it?

If you have an answer to that question, then I will bow to your authority.

No, we genuinely believe you to be wrong.

And if by 'good folk' you mean 'crazy diet absolutists', then I hope you are right.

    Tap water, flouridated, chlorinated.
Bottled water, minerals added 'for taste'.

So now that we've established that you don't drink any pure water, we can quibble over the meaning of pure.

That sounds exactly like Paleo alright.

Why do you feel the need to attack/insult while making your point. It is ok to debate something in a mature way.

I answered it and you keep with the ignorance. I will not keep going back and forth with you.

You are now on the ignore list and the ignorance just to start an argument just baffles me.

This site is not like it used to be in the least. It is getting worse by the day.

I would log Chai as milk and sugar.

If Diet Dr. Pepper and Coke Zero didn't function as water, I'd have died of thirst years ago. I have probably gone weeks without drinking "water only".

feeling the need for a cup of tea

For me, I only count actual plain water as my water intake. I don't consider tea, coffee or even flavored enhanced water in my diary as water intake.

^^ This..... I count water as water all the rest I do not count towards my water intake goal

I didn't attack or insult anyone. I stated my opinion and I stated exactly what my Dr's and my dietician told me.

Water is water and if it is coffee, tea, soda or juice then it is not water............exercise a little common sense. So, I guess you feel that they attacked me??

You did not answer me. How is it no longer H2O? That is the only answer that matters and you haven't provided it.

I don't argue simply to argue. I'm arguing because your answers in this thread and many others are false and it's bad information to give someone who doesn't actually understand the concept.

That was my first thought as well. I knew I liked you for a reason! :drinker:

Sorry, but tea is still a source of H2O, which is chemically what your body needs. Diuretic effects are minor so it's basically equivalent. Why you'd log your fluid intake anyway I'm not sure, but to say they're completely different is just incorrect.

What is appeal to authority and what is the dunning kruger effect?

To put it another way - They are letting more people on this site that disagree with me by the day.

You don't get to be the only point of view with a voice any more than we do. That's life. You really need to learn to function within that framework.

I have only ever logged water as water. Everything else I log as what it is, I have a beverage section in my diary to log tea and beer (ha)!

    The great water debate.

There are a lot of things we are taught in school that are very much wrong. Tea and coffee (etc) not having water the body can utilize is one of those wrong things. So, some people, even professionals, have outdated mythological information. Even milk has water in it. If only water counted for hydration there would be a lot more dead people. Some people prefer to drink a lot of water. I have that preference, but I still know that the other things I drink contribute to hydrating me. And on a day I choose a lot of green tea, I don't force feed myself more water than I need.

The problem lies in MFP's label of "water". It should be labeled "Hydration" or "non-caloric liquids".

Some people really, really do have difficulty taking in enough liquids. I live in Texas, so those people are not me! But I'm just sayin'. Some people really just don't have much of a thirst drive.

Exactly. Except they don't have to be non-caloric to count for hydration. You just have to make sure you also account for the calories.

Of course tea counts as hydration - only a dummy would think otherwise...
