on the last kg and frustrated. . . words of support please

HUGE fluctuations, feeling like I 'have' to get there, feeling like I'm not 'finished' etc... I know it's stupid, I know losing 29 kg is a lot, but I just wanna knock this last one off.

Stressed, tired, on the last week of my work year, dealing with a pretty huge personal trauma and am fixating on this one last kilogram as if it'll be my salvation.

I know it's not rational, I know I'm not exactly fat, but the fluctuating scale makes me feel like I've been lying to myself even though I know that it can't measure a 'fake low' - I did hit it.

I am not there yet personally, but I am sure you will get there. If I would suggest anything (and I am a newbie, so take this with a grain of salt), I would make sure you an accurately recording both the calorie intake and the exercise expenditures to make sure you are still at a calorie deficit. Just a thought...

In any case, congratulations on the weight loss so far; you are doing fantastic!

I don't eat back my excercise calories and I'm not going to suddenly start making mistakes that would explain a 6 kg difference, but thanks for the congrats :)

This is probably the key to your frustration with your last kilo. And the fact it's the last one. Go easy on yourself. Perhaps even pack away that scale for a few weeks while you deal with the personal trauma and stress. Keep logging, keep at it and hopefully once things calm down again, you'll find you've got there.

Very good luck to you - you've already done an awesome job and you're nearly there. You just need to take care of yourself for a few weeks while you get over the bumps.

I was just taking a stab at it; I am still a novice when it comes to this. I am sure more knowledgeable people will be able to answer your question. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks. I have 7 weeks holiday starting Friday so I'm really hoping that this calms my stress levels down as this is my 21st straight week of work without a break. I know you're right - fixating isn't helping - but I feel like until I achieve this goal I haven't achieved enough. I know it's dumb.

Maybe stop weighing yourself for a couple of weeks. Less input to fuel your frustration. Then once safely into the holidays, you can resume. Just a thought! Take care, you can do it!

I know - I've already been blaming myself and it's not that.

If you just need to see 30 on the ticker, sit in a sauna, take a laxative, go to sleep, and weigh yourself after using the toilet in the morning. Pure water weight, but the scale doesn't care.

yeah possibly. I did put the scales away but my flatmate got them out again because he's started on MFP after seeing what I lost this year haha. When they're there I just get on them.

Except you are there. You can fluctuate a couple and more kilos in a day. So if you weigh yourself in the morning and are at your mythical goal you could be at that weight. Then an hour later you wont be. Stop obsessing over something that in reality is just a number that is plucked out of thin air. celebrate what you have achieved and move on.

    Tell me about it!

I have been trying to get the same few kilos off but over the course of a month I put them on then they come off again.

    Damn hormones.

I find focusing more on measurements and body fat helps. Also, how toned I am looking.

I would start questioning what difference 1 kg is going to make to how you look and feel. You could go and buy a different set of scales and that could easily give you the number you're looking for. What about what you actually look like? Are you happy with that? That is a far better place to start. Don't define yourself by an arbitrary number.

I'm not used to the way I look yet. Some days I look in the mirror and I'm astonished. I don't yet equate the body in the mirror with my body, somehow.

But yeah my thinking is/has been 'once i get to the number it'll fall into place' - I don't think that'll happen. I think maybe I need to accept that I'm not fat and let the numbers do their thing.

The last few pounds are difficult to shed. I am allowing myself a few weeks to achieve my final goal. The race to the finish is frustrating so I'm not going to stress anymore. Keep going and you will reach that final goal :)

Yeah it took my mind a while to catch up (and it's still not there yet). You're right though, there is not magical change in perception once you hit that number. The two are quite unconnected in my experience. Don't forget that there's no deadline either. You can take some time now to start getting used to how you look, and accepting yourself as you are now - that doesn't mean that anything's set in stone though, or that you can't lose more if you want to. Maybe start focusing on what your body can do, rather than what it looks like - and give your brain some time to adjust to what you're seeing now in the mirror.

It's much more realistic to have a target range of a few pounds or kg, one true number is just not possible.

very true. My GW is actually the middle number in my target range. Technically I'm inside target range at the moment, but at the higher end

Go figure. Felt 17 kinds of frustrated all day, and kinda weird, and now, all of a sudden, I'm like 5 kg less than I was last night. Scales. make. no. sense.
