How do you like your grilled cheese?

I think once you add meat, it stops being a grilled cheese and more of a sandwich... I might be alone on this.
Don't get me wrong I love meat, but once you add bacon and other meats they become the star in that situation.
I disagree. As long as you have a positive cheese ratio, it still counts.
Tuna melts could still have a positive cheese ratio but they aren't grilled cheese. Grilled ham and cheese sandwiches aren't solely referred to as grilled cheese. So I have to agree with the poster that said once it you start adding stuff, it is no longer is a grilled cheese.
Adding fish changes the game.0 -
Rye or Italian Bread, sharp cheddar AND muenster cheese, a thinly sliced tomato and thinly sliced onion.0

Crusty bread, gouda or havarti cheese, pesto and thinly sliced tomatoes. YUM.0

With bacon. Preferably fried in the bacon fat.0

That is not a grilled cheese sandwich.0 -

That is not a grilled cheese sandwich.
But to do away with this stupid fight I propose that everyone starts calling them toasted sandwiches like they do here. You can put whatever the hell you want in it as long as it has cheese and is toasted in some fashion. Toasted sandwich, or toastie.0 -
I was under the impression that grilled cheese is just bread and cheese.... and butter. Add anything else and it's just a grilled sandwich.0

Cut into triangles
this is one i think we should all agree on to get the proper mouth to cheese: bread ratio requires it to be cut into a equilateral triangle.0 -
This works for me:
I prefer the basic cheddar cheese and white bread with a bit of butter/margarine spread on the outside of each slice.

There are different ways?? What? Just grill some cheese on bread and give if the f&ck to me. That is all. :bigsmile:0

Nice thick slick of a whole grain bread, standard salted butter, Fresh Mozzarella, 1-2 slices of pepperoni from the deli.0

Dipped in tomater soup!..lol0

With dill pickles inside...yummmmm0

Lots of butter and slightly burnt.0

The side without the cheese has to be toasted first (with a thin spread of butter) so that the bread is not floppy, but the side with the cheese is NOT to be toasted.
That side has a spread of wholegrain mustard and REAL CHEESE, not light cheese. Grilled enough to make those slightly burnt-brown bubbles in the cheese.0 -
Extra mature cheddar, any bread and grilled. Just as nature intended. But sometimes I flirt with the dark side and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce. Or a thin coating of pesto.
Damn. I'm now feeling hungry again!
Inspired by this thread, I made grilled cheese this morning for breakfast. Though to make it fit with my macros, I only had one slice of bread (and lots of cheese). We were running short on butter so I used barbeque sauce as the spread. And you know what? It was *glorious*. Too tempted to have the same for lunch.
Question: Can man exist on bread and cheese? There's protein, fat and carbs in there after all. :laugh:0 -
Sourdough bread, brie & lobster0

There's a food truck that stops by my work every week and they serve this grilled cheese. Very tasty!

What do you do with the rest of the sandwich?0 -

this just deserved a repost. i don't know if it's technically a grilled cheese, but i know i want one.0 -
With tomatoes, any orange cheese cheddar or american... i'm not picky, and white bread, sourdough if they have it.
There are times though when I must have a kraft american cheese sandwich on webers bread, luckily those times are rare b/c we havent' bought that bread since 1991. but it's a unique taste that I miss along with hot bologna sandwiches on webers with best foods.0 -

Regular bread, any kind of real cheese. I'm not picky, so long as it's not fake cheese. :laugh:0 -
I like mine in my mouth. I don't care what's on it really. Except pickles. Pickles do not belong on a grilled cheese.

And no. American is not cheese.)
Might as well hand in your citizenship card, Comrade.
Nope! The best cheese is made in America.
Made here in my home state of Missouri:
There's also some yummy cheese made up in Wisconsin:
So neener, neener0
