Exercising during Christmas

IMO if it is a true routine you would continue to do it regardless of what is going on.
Why would you stop because it is the Holiday Season? If you stop because it is the Christmas season, you are just looking for excuses and are not truly committed to becoming healthier.
I am continuing to move my tush 6 days a week with 1 rest day.
I disagree. I have a great workout routine and I enjoy it. If I was home I would stick to it. But I live in a different country to my family and this will be the first time I've been back there in 2 years. Driving there alone is 4hrs to the Ferry, 3hr Ferry, then 2hrs to the house. I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters and my mother, none of whom live near each other but all of whom want to see me while I'm home. I have to fit all of that into 2 days, before we drive another 3hrs to my partners house to see his parents. He also has not been back in 2years and his family have lots of things planned as well as us being asked to visit his friends. Then I have my friends who also would like me to stop by which is another 1.5hrs drive away one of the days. Then we have to make the journey back. We have 8 days, 2 of which will be us driving.
I might have an hour free every day to walk the dog but that will be it. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to keep up my regular routine at over these days so sometimes its not possible to keep it up regardless of what is going on.
People shouldn't be accused of not being dedicated to healthy living if they have to take a few days off for other things every now and again0 -
My exercise is attending kickboxing and sparring classes at a martial arts studio. I will not be able to attend on the days it is closed for the holidays, being that the instructors have families of their own and would like to celebrate the holidays. So I will have a few extra days off.
But those first classes back after a break are intense, so I'm not really worried about it.
I maintained over Thanksgiving and lost a pound last week. If I gain a pound or two over Christmas, it's nothing compared to what I've already lost or what I still have to go. I'm trying to keep things in perspective and still enjoy my food.0 -
Well, Christmas is on a Wed. so I'll be squatting Christmas Eve and resting Christmas day. If I get too restless and don't feel like I have enough to do I might go for a run.
I love lifting, why would I quit just because it's a holiday? My workouts help put me in a great mood and holidays are even better with a new PR. I ran a 5k on Thanksgiving and it made for a great start to the day.0 -

Just wondering, how many men continue their regular exercise program during the Christmas season and how many women? :huh:
I won't do any workouts on Christmas Day, and likely not Christmas Eve either. But I will be doing plenty of running around while cooking.0 -
Why would you stop?
Because Christmas is family time for cooking, eating, playing games, and watching Christmas films0 -
I was planning on eating as much as possible and seeing if I could lose 50 lbs again. Screw workouts. :grumble:0

I sure as heck am! However, my industry involves a lot of client lunches and dinners and happy hours around this time, so I am meticulous about scheduling my workouts and prepping all my meals for the weeks around that. I know that I will more likely be maintaining than losing with the number of "cheat" days, because even the "healthiest" thing at most resturants and a few drinks easily put me over goal.
I am determined to stay on track!0 -
Basically, you don't even have to exercise on Christmas, but I'm doing the same total hours I do every week, which is about 4 to 5 hours per week of intense stuff.0

Wouldn't matter what time or year it was or if I was on vacation. I exercise in some way almost everyday and with a week off every 6 months or so, have done so the past 30 years.

Excercise should be something you enjoy fitting in your life. What that means is different for different people. It might be a couple times a week for some or every day for 3 hours a day for others. Either way, when it becomes a chore you look forward to a vacation from you're in trouble.
Agreed. I work out 3x per week at the gym and lift free weights at home 2x per week with two rest days. Since I have access to a gym where we're traveling over the holidays, and can bring my weights with me (we're driving) it shoudn't be to hard to keep it up. While I don't love exercising, I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and the results, and if I don't do the above I definitely feel like something's missing.
And to be honest, I hate visiting my in-laws, so I'm super happy to have an excuse to bug out for a couple of hours.0 -

The kind of cooking/baking I'll probably be doing really screws with my upper back/neck injury, so I'll probably have to not lift for that Christmas week. I'll still be doing LB, though!0

Honestly, stopping exercise never occurred to me. Even if away, it's fairly simple to go for a run, swim (it's Summer here) or do some basic body weight exercises. I'll probably adjust the routine a little, but still do something.0 -

I'm not going to work out xmas day itself but I will all the other days. I have nearly 2 weeks off work so will get some extra workouts in. I'm sure it won't even begin to offset the massive amount calories I will consume0

I go home for christmas and my house is hectic right the way through -.- I'm hoping I'll still get my climbing sessions in, and some running. I'll be up the stables once a week too and weights I can do in my room....but there is no space for my workout videos - unless I can convince the family to have a laugh on zumba on the wii they're not getting done :')0

My family's Christmas weekend conveniently falls on the weekend I am taking off after finishing 30 Day Shred and before starting Ripped in 30. Yeah, I planned that. :drinker:0

I'm snowboarding for two weeks during xmas and new year - so I'm exercising everyday and will have a lot of fun. Yeah!0

I stick to my normal routine it's more challenging because the children are home from school and we have my father in law with us but I am fortunate to have a home gym so will use that. I will relax my eating a little but won't pig out.0

Yes! Since I'm off, I actually enjoy my exercise more as I am not pressed for time! I am planning on mapping out a long run to do on Christmas Morning.0

I will be working out Christmas morning, after my daughter opens her presents and before I start baking. No excuses. Should be leg day for me. What a better way to start the day?0

If I was in town I would totally keep to my workout schedule. This year I'll be out of town so I probably won't workout which I'm going to hate! I haven't taken an entire week off in over 2 years.0

I missed my workout the day before Thanksgiving because I got home too late and did a double workout on Thanksgiving day to make up for it. I only take holidays off it they fall on a scheduled rest day.0
