I have NO idea how to figure this out! I walked 50 minutes with 8 lbs on each ankle, but don't know what that would amount to. Help!!!

Calculate as if you were 16lbs heavier.

I would record as walking 50 mins. and know that it was more for the day.I do this with chores in the house.[sweeping, walking up and down stairs, etc.:ohwell:
  • The comment about calculate if you were 16 pounds heavier is not right. I dont know the answer but this is wrong. If you were 16 pounds heavier, your weight would not be distributed directly on your ankles; basically you're adding resistance to the muscle movement; a 140 pound person bench pressing a 50lb bar is NOT doing the same work as a 190 pound person benching a 10 pound bar.

Okay, this is only 2 years beyond the posting point, but I just read that a 140 lb woman will burn 38 calories every 10 minutes with 5 lb ankle weights.

User a calorie counting heart rate monitor. I would suggest using a Polar FT4, as this seems to be the most popular.

I would think a HR monitor would be the only way to know for sure.
