I've been reading a lot in these forums and I'm wondering why people say to eat more when clearly we need to eat at a deficit to lose weight or better yet lose just fat by putting heavy lifting into the mix. Isn't it just eat at deficit (not too crazy low) and lift heavy, then u will drop body fat while retaining lbm??? And u can do cardio whether u want or not? Simple right? Or no? Thx

When you joined MFP and put all your numbers in it tells you how much to eat. It INCLUDES your deficit which is why it is wrong to eat less than it says because then the deficit is too large and therefore not healthy.0

I came expecting the Hockey Diet.0

i think the eat more message is for those people who immediately go on the air, sunshine and rice cake diet to lose weight.
yeah you can lose weight that way but since it's not sustainable they end up yo-yoing.
heavy lifting just by itself isn't really going to help with fat loss if you're not eating at a deficit.
and yeah it is pretty simple : eat a little less move a little more but it gets complicated because people want to see instant results which sometimes leads to them eating A LOT less as a way to reach their goal quicker not realizing that it's setting themselves up for failure0 -
I came expecting the Hockey Diet.
I personally envisioned something to do with soccer, but I can see hockey here too.0 -
I'm not a hockey fan, but don't you want the goalie to be big.0

OP: I think the Eat More to Lose More is referring to those who try to starve or at least aim ridiculously low in order to lose weight. It's saying you don't have to only eat 1000 calories a day feel weak and binge all the time. You can eat more, have energy to work out and you wont binge so you will lose more weight over time. My thoughts anyway.0

notice how OP never came back…?
And thank you Red Head for the best post in here. I understand now and obviously my 1500-1600 cal goal (NOT goalie people! - ipad auto changed it to goalie thank you) is not too much of a defitcit being my TDEE is about 2050. So from the info read here, I shall NOT eat more to lose weight.0 -
