How do you forgive yourself on cheat days

How I forgive myself after a cheat day:
I go to bed, I wake up, do it better today
Done!
Don't beat yourself up. You gotta live every now and again!0 -
I resume normal ops, do not punish myself, I am adult I will fail on occasion but this is a lifestyle change and in the end my life is different. So lost battle but war is won. Also I tend to exercise 3 to 5 times a week so if I over eat the next day's run is a little longer.0

Look at your weekly calorie deficit rather than your daily allowance to make room for 'cheats'...0

Seriously, don't get down over this. And I hope you didn't really skip dinner. For the rest of your life there are going to be parties or events where you might be over, but there are also days you are going to be under. Don't look at everything on such a day to day basis or you will make yourself crazy. As long as you don't get in the habit of going over daily you will be just fine. Keep up the great work!0

Going over our calorie intake once in 5 months is not what made us fat . I would go ahead and enjoy dinner get right back on track and move forward.0

I would say just don't go down the forgiveness route at all, after all there are far more important things in life to allocate forgiveness to. I work on a premise that it's what you eat everyday not just on one day. If you fall off the wagon just get straight back on it the next day

I don't consider it a moral failing when I eat too much, I just get back to my regular routine the next day.
QFT.
It's food, not murder. You've done well for 5 months. You had 1 day off and it will not cause you to regain all of your weight. Just track like normal again the next day.
Also, there's a lot of evidence out there that suggests regular (but not too frequent....once every couple of months) diet breaks are beneficial.0 -
I don't understand Cheat days, but I am not opposed to them. It's all about personal preference and what your personal program is. However, I like to live by: Portion control and Moderation. That way I don't feel deprived at all, and feel that I need a cheat day. And is it really a whole day that you are 'cheating'. Or just a cheat meal? A whole day seems like a lot..
Anyways, to the point. It's only one day, you won't undue all of your hard work. Just brush it off, and get back to your regular routine the next day. We are all human
Good luck!0 -
I see you have found resolve and congrats on that..
This is something I tell my folks: You don't bust your *kitten* as hard as you do when you excersise every day and watch your intake so you can deprive yourself of certain things in life. You do all that so you can partake in those things (in moderation) and not feel guilty or pay massive repercussions from it. As long as those days are the exception and not the rule, you're golden.0 -
I forgive myself because I've been in maintenance before and learned that it takes more than just one cheat day every now and then to gain weight. Part of the learning curve is recognizing when you have eaten poorly and that you can't do that every day. But doing it every other week or so won't break your scale, promise.
(Took me three years of traveling, grad school, and not having a gym membership to... gain ten lbs. I'll take all the street food I ate in various countries and the wine drunk over those ten lbs any day.)0 -
I actually hate that it's even called a 'cheat' meal/day. Everyone goes on about the fact that we're not on a diet, but calling it a 'cheat' implies that it is a diet. Jeez. I have days where I'll eat 2,500 - 3,000 (or even more) and I could care less. It's a change in lifestyle, you don't have to kill yourself after enjoying yourself. We have the rest of our lives to live, are you really going to stress over a meal and a couple of beers in the long run? Just behave from here on in.
Yes! Exactly this ^^
I've had many days in the past 15 months where I've gone significantly over my allowance. Just log it & move on.0 -
I def understand about the guilt. My family came to visit me last week, and we went out to eat a lot, making it harder for me to control the amount of food I was eating, since I wasn't preparing it, and I ended up going WAY over my calorie goal 3 days last week. I did feel bad about it, but I got back up on that horse and tried again, everyday, and at the end of the week, for all my fatassery, I'd still lost a pound. You'll be fine, just remember that it's the discouragement that will make you fail, not the food.0

There's nothing to forgive. Life happens and you should enjoy it. One or two days of enjoyment is not going to kill your progress. Just get back to normal the next day.0
