Workout Fragrance and Scents

I love when my deodorant works- I can smell that- that works.
I always give a light dusting of vanilla body spray- whenever I leave the house- I do not marinade in it- you can only smell it if you are within a VERY close radius.
other wise- nothing.
I hate when someone wafts in with over whelming scents- many of them do NOT mix well with a good sweat- and it's nauseating.0 -
I'm allergic to some perfumes and fragrances. There's a fair chance that if I can smell an unnatural scent on the person next to me, I'm going to have to leave the area or my eyes will start watering uncontrollably. (I've never run into a problem with deodorants, personally.)
Please don't wear unnecessary scents to the gym.0 -
I don't/can't really smell the others in the gym.0

The idea of commenting on how a stranger smells at the gym is mind boggling to me. Do people really do this? And can they never, ever come anywhere near me?0

the stranger who smells or the people commenting about it?
I've had people WAFT from 10-15 feet away. And I can smell them.
Too much- it's way too much.
Also- it's like a train- you sometimes are in VERY close space- it can be VERY uncomfortable if you are wearing to much. VERY. Like nauseatingly so.
I also have an issue- you know when people walk by and there is the draft of air that follows? I can't breath that- 9/10 it's disgusting smelling- and I just mentally can't- it's their germs and everything- and I'm inhaling it- for me- that's such a huge thing- to have on top of that a chemical smell I'm mouth breathing.. no way. cant' do it.
Lifting requires big gulps of air sometimes- and I have had to STOP my lift- because I couldn't inhale without choking on someone's fumes.
nope nope nope nope nope.0 -

The person doing the commenting. I'm no stranger to smells at the gym (both good and bad), but I couldn't imagine commenting on it. If it was overpowering, I would probably move as far away as possible, but wouldn't say anything. That said, I think it's inconsiderate and rude to reek of any kind of scent when out in public.
I was responding more to the OP's situation. Saying to a stranger at the gym "Hey, you smell good" to me would be fantastically creepy. I guess there are people who would take it as a compliment and enjoy the attention, but it would make me extremely uncomfortable to the point of leaving the room immediately if someone did it to me. I have very strict personal boundaries when it comes to people I don't know.0 -

OH OH OH okay- that makes sense. I thought you were more on line with even just this topic at all LOL
Yeah- I think I've only had one or two people tell me I smell good- but they are usually people I know. not strangers- I've never had a stranger tell me that- that's a HUGE creep factor. I would like wise only tell someone I was familar with it they smelled good (i think I have done that once or twice) but I have no shame telling them they wreak too- it's a gym- my friends work hard- we aren't ashamed LOL
By the way do you dance? That looks an awful lot like a BD picture/costume!0 -

Yes, I do. I've been a Belly Dance teacher and performer for over ten years. Even did it full time for three of those years.
Now that I'm back to having a day job, I'm needing to track calories and work out in in a way I never did when I was rehearsing constantly for performances and teach 10 - 13 classes a week.0 -
Getting sprayed by a skunk before you start a half marathon would be a great way to maintain your own space during the run, and avoid all that pesky jostling at the start. Apparently.0

nice. I've been dancing for about 6 or 7 (herm 2006- I guess I'm pushing 7!) three years full time is impressive- I don't think I could do it. I'm a part time professional- I'm on the edge of considering cards/site etc... it's so much work- I have a full time job- but I do it juuuuuuust enough I'm on the fence about all the rest of the stuff- tax right offs and discounts for make up and stuff. shrug- love it- I'd do it either way.
good for you- it's nice to see another serious dancer here. :flowerforyou:0 -
Something fresh, out of the shower kind of smell would be more appropriate.0

deodorant smell.
I do not want to smell perfume or cologne.0 -
When I am working out, the LAST thing I am thinking about is how I smell. I just hope I don't smell offensive. Seriously, why put on body spray or cologne if you are going to be working up a sweat? :indifferent:0

Cloraform?? j/k
Vanilla... light not too heavy or sweet... but just there. (and not during, but as you pass people in/out of the place... )0 -

I am p constantly thinking about how I smell. But that's a hazard of having an enormous perfume collection.
That said, I don't put anything on before hitting the gym. If I have anything on, I've been wearing it all day.0 -

I see where you have taken this. Sorry, I was away for a bit and didn't respond sooner. I stated I like it when someone comes to me and comments that I smell good. It makes me feel good. Not just the gym, anywhere for that matter.
I do not walk around the gym commenting on how people smell. Are you kidding me? Lol! That is creepy and just all out weird. HOWEVER, I do notice how some people smell and sometimes it is disgusting. YES, it is gym but I don't care if it is a gym, family reunion or formal dinner....if you have some control over how you smell, try to do something if you can. Sweat is sweat but if you pretend you don't know what I'm talking about.....so be it. Hehe! Any strong scents (bad or good) that interferes with the workout vibe is just too much.
It is no different than any other occasion to me. For those that don't care, why not just go natural full time? No deodorants, no cologne/fragrance, no anything. Just be natural! There are many people that are in to that. Each there own! Have at it! ;-)
I'm open to strangers and have a good time meeting new people. Nothing strict about meeting strangers here. I'm a very social person and enjoy talking with, listening too and being around people. It's cool that you are strict with strangers. Everyone is different!
It seems like the general consensus is something light, no more than a deodorant scent. Cool, this is the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks!0 -
I don't use anything other than deodorant when I workout. It's not heavy, doesn't bother anyone, and I don't smell of cologne (but I do sweat quite a bit, it goes with the gym I suppose).0
