Is losing 70lbs in a year possible?

Hello everyone I'm just starting my ultimate weight loss goal of losing 70lbs by the end of 2014. Do you think its possible to lose that much weight in a year? I'm 22 years old 5"6 and weigh 200lbs. I would like to get to my goal weight of 130lbs. And I am calling out to all weight loss buddies who are also on this journey of losing 70lbs+ by the end of 2014 to join me.!!! ^_^

Hi There! Yes it is possible. I'm working on a similar goal and since my restart on 10/30 I'm down 16lbs. If I logged in right now I'd be 2.4lbs lower but I under-ate very badly the past 2 days so I know it's going to fluctuate again and I'd rather not have the yo-yo weight on my log! I'll log in Tues as planned.
The challenge groups are a huge help for me so hopefully you'll find some that work for you Feel free to add me as a friend! Support here is a great thing and keeps you going0 -
Yes, it certainly is possible. I started the last week of September, when I weighed 219.5 lbs. and I am currently down 35.5 lbs. (to 184 lbs.) I am on track to be at my goal weight of 168 lbs. by the time I next see my doctor on January 22nd. That's a drop of 51.5 lbs in just four months.0

It's certainly possible the only thing that stands in your way is you, decide to do it, log accurately and put in the effort and it will happen, I started at 308 lbs 31/1/13 and am down 105 lbs.0

It is possible. You just have to be disciplined, committed to hitting your caloric target(and macros minimum, if you do not have any health considerations@micros) and the fat weight should come off. You have to WANT it badly enough to succeed.

YES!!! I lost 70 lbs. in 7 months! Then it slowed down after that and I went up and down and up and down but have kept off at least 70 for 3 years! It IS do able!!0

Should be possible, but don't stare yourself too blind on it. Losing weight is not a race. Just take the time it needs to lose weight in a healthy way0

There is no point trying to set a bar really high for such a sustained period of time. You can easily get bored of the harsh routines that you will have to impose on yourself, the food you eat, and will most likely get frustrated from a more radical than average weight loss target.
All relevant factors.
Why not just try and lose 0.5-1lb per week?0 -

There is no point trying to set a bar really high for such a sustained period of time. You can easily get bored of the harsh routines that you will have to impose on yourself, the food you eat, and will most likely get frustrated from a more radical than average weight loss target.
All relevant factors.

i lost almost 90 pounds in a little over a year. i did not do this with any extreme means, nothing un healthy at all. i simply ate clean and worked my tush off (literally). so i would say yes it is possible. i started this journey around 208 lbs, i have been in maintenance for a year and 1/2 at 123-125 and now working on building muscle.
HOWEVER try not to put such a strict time limit on yourself (i did this and it caused me at one point to become obsessed with the scale every day). I would say set a year as an approx time frame but make your goal a healthier you and commit to doing your best each and every day. When you give each day your all and work as hard as you can you honestly can only win best of luck to you!0 -
If you weighed more now, I would really believe you could lose 70. I started in January, set my goal per week at 1 1/2 pounds, logged my food, and hit the gym 4-6 times per week. My average loss is 1 pound per week. This resulted from vacations being gains rather than losses. If I had stuck to it more firmly, I could have lost 70. That being said, I started at 254. My original goal was under 200, now I'm thinking 180.
Keep logging, try to eat real foods, get enough protein, and treat yourself once in a while with something worthwhile - one piece of really good chocolate is better than a whole pile of Oreos!0 -
Yes it is. I have lost 79.2 pounds in almost 9 months. With a positive lifestyle change with my diet and exercise it has made a world of difference. I have went from a size 18 pant / XL shirt to a size 6 pant / medium shirt and from 223 pounds to 143.8 pounds. I am 5' 8" tall.0

Yes, you can do it if you are disciplined enough to stick with it.
It can also depend on how much you have to lose.
Many of us here have lost more than that in a year, but in my case, I had a lot more to lose than you do.
Barring any existing health problems, you should be successful if you stay focused and log honestly.

If you set the bar too low, you can easily get frustrated with the lack of results and give up. At .5 a week, it'd take 2.7 years to lose 70 lbs. Not at all reasonable IMO.
Why not aim to lose 1.5 to 2 lbs a week for the first 50 lbs and then then slow it down to .5 - 1 lb. a week when you get within 20 lbs. of your goal? You'd lose the 70 in a year with this method and see results in a timely manner to encourage you and keep you on course.0 -
yes. my 85 yr old grandma lost 60 lbs in the last 15 months without being able to exercise due to arthritis and still eating all her fave foods just in smaller portions (yup she refused to give up pumpkin pie) and being that age plus diabetic she still managed to do it.0

IF you have a significant amount of weight to lose (i.e. you are obese), 2 pounds a week is not at all extreme and will not result in death.0 -
I have lost 64lbs in 6 months. I started out with 2lb a week goal, and as the calorie allotment got lower I changed the goal to 1.5lbs per week, and now at 1lb per week. You can do it if you follow your plan closely. Also, you don't have to starve to lose it. I have never had my calorie goal less then 1350 NET, and that was only for a week until I changed it to 1lb a week.0

Its def possible, esp if you are bigger to start with. I have 10mths in & I am down 96lbs. I started out at 295lbs. Be strong, stubborn (that is what got me through the first few weeks which were the hardest) & don't give up!0

Definitely possible! I'm down 60 pounds in 7 months w/a nowhere near perfect "dieting" history. I give myself weekly cheat days and sometimes eat more than I should on others, but I'm sticking with my workouts no matter what and I'm STILL losing. You can do it! It all starts with mindset.0

Absolutely! Divide 12 months into 70 pounds and it feels and sounds so much more reasonable. Best to you on your journey.
