Big Butt Problems!

I want to lose fat all over my body but mostly my butt and thigh areas. I known you cant spot reduce so I need to burn fat all over. I am a classic pear shape and my butt is the biggest part of me. Compared to my 5'1" frame, its very unporportionate. What can I do or avoid to burn fat and minimize the bootie?? I have heard to stay away from elipiticals and stair machines.. true??

I'm 5'1 too and need to lose in my butt and thigh area as well. The stair master is my favorite machine so I'm curious why people would say to stay away from it. Did anyone give you reasons?0 -
Hey! I am also a pear shape and i have that issue too, my butt looks like it doesn't belong to me because its bigger than the rest of me. Please do not do any squats, lunges and all those exercises to work on building your butt muscle, dont do any inclination on the treadmill or eliptical. Us pear shapes should work on over all fat loss and on building our arm and shoulder muscles to balance out our rear end. running is good for the thighs and butt. work on cardio on your lower half and strength in your upper. (pushups, planks) my thighs were skinny until i started strength training them and now they are muscly (which is bad on a person with stringy hands, and thin calves.) so a pear shaped body doesn't only store fat there but also creates muscle easier over there than any place of your body. Good luck on decreasing your lower half!0

Run it off! On treadmill as is they are a little lifted so your gonna get a flat *kitten*!0

You just happen to store most of your extra fat in those areas. Keep losing weight, and it will go from there as well.0

the thing is, you're still going to be pear shaped no matter what you do unless you work the upper body to look more balanced.
if you lose weight, you'll just be a smaller pear shape. it's not like you can genetically change your body type to a ruler shape. odds are you are pear shaped because your pelvis is wider than your ribcage. you cant reshape bones
ETA: by upper body i dont just mean arms i mean chest and lats, basically the muscles surrounding your ribcage and spine that will help you look balanced.0 -

Ditched cardio completely, and hit the squat rack hard. Lost 50 pounds with just heavy lifting and am finally pleased with the shape of my butt. I do tend to hold weight in my hips so weight training has definitely helped me sculpt the butt I want, even though manipulating your natural body shape is impossible.0

whoops read the first post wrong….just eat in a deficit and keep lifting heavy…that will help you lose body fat and get you the shape you want..0

No, no, no. You want to build strength in all your body parts, including your glutes. Trust me, 38" hips from saggy fat look NOTHING LIKE 38" hips from ripped glutes.0 -
I think it's impossible to create the shape you have in your mind - we all do it, but we can't make our body into shapes it's not genetically designed to be. Sure, we can reduce weight and that will change some areas of our body, but we all have to accept that our bodies are preconditioned based on the genes of our parents and their's and so on. Once we accept that fact, we can start working on the things we do have control over. And I think others have made some great suggestions here, which I won't repeat.0

Well, since losing 50 pounds doing cardio and strength training, I've only lost about 3 more pounds in 2 years, but 3 sizes, heavy lifting has greatly reduced my butt and thighs.0

I have about 39" hips right now... and everywhere else is tiny =\ I always find myself going to the darn cardio machines when I am at the gym bc the free weights are always taken up by the beefy guys. What weigh machines will benefit me? Also, what about foods? I have already started the couch to 5k program and love it so far, I will work on upper body strengh as well. I need a personal trainer!!0

I would say get on a program of compound lifts and stick to it….and who cares if there are 'beefy guys" in free weight room…they won't mind if you wander over and start lifting..I never do...0 -

Weight training. I don't see how an elliptical (or any cardio machine) will affect your butt.0

this is what my roommate told me. he said not to do those or anything with incline bc it builds the butt muscle which makes it bigger.0 -

Over 120, I tend to be a pear. Under 120, an hourglass. I think people are more afraid of building muscle under the fat then more concerned about the real problem.... The fat.0 -
Actually in your pics you look proportionate and normal. But I am sure you will like the results you get from weight training and HIIT, if you choose to do that.0

Why not just love your body the way god made it? If you want to have a smaller behind why are you squatting? If you want to squat do many without weights. the higher weight/lower rep builds mass the best. Yes your right about cardio but if you feel the burn in your *kitten* or you have DOMS there your building a bigger booty.0

I am 5' 2" and have small waist and big hips. I find that no incline treadmill is the best for me. Elliptical builds my butt muscle and this makes it worse0
