Energy

On June 24, 2011, I made the decision to "get healthy" and despite disc degenerative decease, being a mom, wife, going to school, and working full-time I have changed my life around dramatically. The issue I am having now is that I'm always tired. I exercise, I eat healthy foods, I take a multivitamin - yet I cannot figure out how to get more energy. Who knows maybe I'm just in a funk. I don't know, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Firstly: awesome job at deciding to change your life for the better! I know it's not easy but hopefully you've seen the benefits already!
I would definitely see how that could be exhausting. My first thought would be to look again at what you're eating. Mostly: are you eating enough? If we're not eating enough that can crash our energy levels. Or maybe there's a food sensitivity you're unaware of? How often do you work out and what workouts do you do? Lots of questions! Ha!
Feel free to friend me, maybe we can figure it out together!0 -
How much sleep are you getting? If you are shortchanging your sleep, than can be a huge energy drain.0

I didn't think about it, but lately I've been getting to bed so late and getting up early. Thanks for reminding me how important sleep is.0 -
Have you gotten blood work lately? Its possible you are deficient in an area (iron, vitamin d, etc...). Also, depending how active you really are, then 1500 calories might now be enough. How often do you exercise?0

this is what i was going to ask I'd talk to your doctor and get some lab work0 -
How long have you been dieting / exercising consistently for and when was the last time you took a complete break?0

beside checking with your doctor on your blood work, what do you mean by "eating healthy"? not all healthy foods provide same level of energy....0

My labs & vitals have all been good (except my Vitamin D was unusually low - so they gave me a prescription to boost my Vitamin D). It's just so strange. I'm feeling good today and yesterday wasn't too terrible. Maybe I just overdid it the other day on my run.0 -

What do you mean by "complete break"? I usually exercise 4 or 5 days per week between 30 and 48 minutes (depending on what my workout is that day). I've been exercising like this since roughly mid-2011.
Thanks,

My normal Monday through Friday day is:
Breakfast: Greek yogurt
Lunch: Kale, Broccoli, Sweet Peppers, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Sweet Potato, Grapes, Pineapple, Apple, Mango, Kiwi, Pistachios or Almonds.
Snack: String cheese; sometimes chips and / or a little chocolate on occasion.
Dinner: Varies (depends on what we are doing as a family)
Weekends - sort of vary. I try to stick to alot of the above, but it depends on what we have planned or are doing as a family alot, too.
Thanks0 -
The vitamin D should help your energy levels. Congrats on your loss! :flowerforyou: that sounded kinda funny...0

Hey!!! Thanks.. Yeah - it's sort of odd.. In 2012, I had a very severe allergic reaction. I didn't have another one until this past father's day and this one was even more severe. Since then I've had at least 2 other allergic reactions and basically I am allergic to practically everything. Anyway, it was not until my first appointment with the allergist that it was discovered that my Vitamin D levels were so low. In fact, another doctor said that the allergist basically prescribed an entire lifetime supply of Vitamin D to catch me back up.
Anyway - I'm keeping an eye on things....... I just need to have enough energy to exercise and live a little. My son is 17 - so in due time he will probably be headed to college.... then I can sleep more0 -

Are you by chance a vegetarian? I am no longer a true believer of high protein diet but adding some lean protein along with fats might help...just a thought. Happy Holidays~0
