Okay okaayyyy I know, I need to be patient. But while I'm working on THAT skill, how can I magic this fat away faster?

It's my first week of getting serious. Like, seriously serious. I've been tracking 1500 calories a day in my journal and despite a big occasion, my organisation's Christmas party, I lost 4.5lbs. I also lost 1/2 inch off my waist and 1/2 inch off my hips.

Workout wise, I see a trainer who has given me a tough weights workout (actually, a couple that I rotate). Plyometrics done in intervals (plyometric squats, lunges and jumping off boxes and stuff - 15 seconds jumping, 15 seconds rest, x 3), lifting heavy weights (squatting 100lbs currently and bench pressing, um, 65lbs). On non weight days I run sprints for 15 seconds and jog for 25, repeat x 8. I'm also working on some choreography, which gives me 1/2 hour of cardio 2 or 3 times, and I'm generally being more active with walking and taking the stairs.

I really, really want to get my hip measurement down. it's currently 46.5 and my waist is 35.5. It just seems to be so much work for such little gain!

It is very simple. Exercise more, eat less, drink water before food and don't eat 'just because you have to'.

Aren't we all on here for the same thing?

    Absolutely. Same exact thing.

We also have to find what works for each of us alone as we're all different.
To find support during this journey?

Wait, what? Where are we going? Do I need to pack anything? Can I bring my family too? It is Christmas and all that.

I'm new to MFP, and I think the OP was judged kind of harshly here. I legitimately think she was asking from those who are experienced and who have been using MFP what tactics she could try to help things along. That's all. I don't really understand all the snarky comments. Aren't we all on here for the same thing? To find support during this journey?

she got upset when others presented the facts its not a quick process.

7 posts before sarcasm but she had already started arguing by then

    Yeah. It's kind of funny.

I know I can't speed up fat loss...but how can I speed up fat loss?

I'm not dumb. I know you can't speed it up..but...really...how can I speed this up!!! TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!!!!

    1 lb a week. That's it.

If you think that's slow, imagine gaining that. It would seem really fast going the other way.

Since you are doing this for life, there's no hurry. Just relax and carry on.

    :drinker:

Apparently 4.5lbs a week isn't fast enough to justify sticking around.

    You're doomed.

Wow, thanks for the positivity. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can for myself, that's all. My asthma has gotten worse which is part of what got me serious. I know it's the extra weight - I'm 10lbs heavier than the last time I can remember my asthma symptoms didn't bother me. So excuse me for wanting to get as much off as soon as possible. And actually, some people, my doctor included, are starting to believe from studies that losing weight faster in the beginning can actually be a good thing.

    http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/188045.php

I lost 10 to 15 lbs a month for the first year and half, I've been going for 2 years now. I have slowed down now but I have increased my calories. Going fast is not that bad in my opinion, especially if you have a lot to lose. Being 400 lbs was way worse on my health than losing weight fast. I'm still going, got about 60 more lbs to lose. I fully expect it to take at least another year to get the rest off but I'm okay with that. You just have to be stronger and want to be healthy more than you want to be overweight and unhealthy. You've got to dig deep be stronger than the cravings and stronger than binging because you've been on the fast track. Everyone on here says it can't be done and you will fail and your going to regret it and go back to what you were doing before you started, but I say if you want it bad enough you can do it and you can do it your way. I did it my way and I refused to listen to all those na-sayers because I had faith in myself. I'm very proud of me and what I've accomplished.

Wow. I'm so glad I deactivated my account. Looking at all the replies - some of them mocking: "boo, you mean I have to work for it?" "And I'd just figured out where they stock rainbows and unicorn farts!" and all the rest - it was the right decision.

I started another account specifically to come on and reply to this. So listen up. I work my butt off in the gym and log my calories in a notebook whether I'm active on MFP or not. So no, I have not given up. And my week's work is not undone. (And actually, I've ALWAYS worked out in the gym - I'm a hip hop dancer. Exercise and hard work are not my problem - food is. So please don't insult me with the 'boo, hard work' comments.)

The reason I'm on MFP is so that when I have questions I have a place to come to find knowledge. This has been unpleasant, and anything but supportive.

I actually asked my trainer the same question today. He suggested mixing my schedule up so that my body doesn't get used to doing things in a certain order all the time. To lift heavier weights and lower the reps to confuse my muscles (I have been lifting seriously for months now - started bench pressing 32kg today up from 27kg). He suggested trying the 8/16 method of intermittent fasting, and adding more cardio in the form of incline walking, 3-4 x per week.

Would it have killed y'all to come up with similar suggestions, of things I might not have been doing that worked for YOU? Instead I got a ton of sarcastic and some insulting remarks instead.

But thanks to the people who didn't do that - appreciated.

    Good luck y'all.
Nobody came up with "similar suggestions" because those suggestions your trainer came up with are just BS that won't have any effect on anything. There's no such thing as "confusing your muscles," that's a crap marketing gimmick that trainers use to keep people paying them. If they told you the truth that one set routine is all you need, they'd pretty much be out of a job after a couple weeks.

The advice you got originally is the best advice. Stay consistent and have patience. That's it.

question though...do you think by looking at the OP and her posting that 1. she needs to lose as rapidly as someone who is morbidly obese 2. it is physically even possible for her to lose the numbers like us heavier people.

5lb loss for me in one week is nothing, but if I weighed what the OP did it wouldnt be realistic. It's the difference between me consuming 2500cal vs her consuming only 500cal

Her diet her way. Her first mistake was coming in here and expecting people to support her. IMO as long as she's not wanting to be 80 freaking lbs then it's all good. If I needed to get 10 lbs off fast for whatever reason I deemed important then I'd have no issues eating 500 calories a day till I lost it. I say this because I'm smart enough to know that it's only short term and will not hurt me. Short term low calorie will not hurt anyone. It's the long term that is not good. People in here act like short term low cal will kill you dead in a day or two.

but short term solutions easily turn into long term behaviorial patterns. luckily for me i've never "dieted" in my life until i turned 41, but i know plenty of people who started earlier in their teens starving themselves for weeks to lose 5 pounds and who are now my age still doing the same "short term" things and starving themselves to lose 50+ pounds. obviously that way doesnt work if they're always yo-yo'ing.

That's true, lots of people do. I'm not one of them, as the engineer in me realizes it wouldn't make any sense for nature to put in a giant energy storage system if we weren't supposed to be able to get huge amounts of energy back out of it.

Nothing could be further from the truth. You ask for advice and we'll give you the best advice we are capable of. But if you're asking for us to rubber stamp any damned thing and say "give it a try, cause, why not and everyone is different" then that's what you go to your real life friends for. IRL friends will lie and support you blindly because the combination of not knowing better and blind loyalty turns many of them into sycophants. Here, you ask a question, you get an answer. Too bad, so sad if it's not what you wanted to hear

I'm very proud of me and what I've accomplished.

question though...do you think by looking at the OP and her posting that 1. she needs to lose as rapidly as someone who is morbidly obese 2. it is physically even possible for her to lose the numbers like us heavier people.

People in here act like short term low cal will kill you dead in a day or two.

your situation is unique to you and to expect us to give her advice that only works for someone in your situation is patently absurd. there are very few people that can safely lose 15 pounds per week on a consistent basis and it would be criminal of us to just assume some random person is the one for this

What is criminal is for everyone to say, you can't, you won't, you'll regret, you'll fail. Instead of saying Try it see how well it works for you and if it doesn't then come back and we'll be here to help you figure out what will work for you. If it does work then it's all good and you've done what few people can do. Everyone's situation is unique to them, it's that special snowflake syndrome that most people says doesn't exist. There are so many more others out there like me, they are just to afraid to come in here and say it for fear of having their heads ripped off.
Yes, go ahead, try it, ruin your health, do serious damage to your body, go for it!

    What absolutely idiotic advice.

I saw Santa at the mall, and I asked him to take away my fat. He said he only GIVES things, he never takes them away.

In for an argument where the OP left on page 1.
    What does 'skinny fat' mean?

    From http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=skinny-fat

    skinny-fat
A person who, while they have very low weight on the scales, and may look reasonably (or even very) skinny with heavy clothes on, they still have a large amount of body fat compared to muscle, resulting in a flabby appearance. Hence, a skinny (low mass) person, who still looks fat (flabby and untoned).

Often someone who has lost weight too fast, and lost alot of muscle mass. Think Mr Burns with fat sacks attached in all the appropriate places..... I know this, because I have a 40 lb belly hanging off a 120 lb frame.
