Foods you didn't used to like

On the quest to refine my pallet (I eat like a five year old most the time), I was wondering what foods have you started to like as you've changed your eating habits? Personally, I never like asparagus, peppers, or yogurt and now I eat them all the time.

I used to think I didn't like beets (I never tried them).
My dh always loved them and a couple of years ago I tried a piece of his and to my surprise-I loved it and have been eating them ever since.

    Scallops
    Green beans
    Edamame
    Salads in general

Bell Peppers... I still hate green ones but I don't mind the red, orange or yellow ones.

There are so many foods I never had as a kid that I just assumed I didn't like. My mom hates sweet potatoes so she never made them for me growing up, but once I ate them I absolutely LOVED them. And I never had beets but I love beets.

Any veggie with the exception of corn, and even then it had to be drenched with butter and salt. I actually like and enjoy most of them now (except cauliflower, beets, kale, and Brussel sprouts...I just can't do it). Look ma I adulted!

A lot of these things are things I just haven't tried. So this is a great list of things to try. Growing up it was very meat and potatoes or pasta in my house. I guess mom didn't want the fight of us trying "icky" new food.

Zucchini has to be my number 1 'never liked' foods, but now i love it...crave it even... eat it several times a week. I was also famous in my family/friends circle for not liking cooked peas but I will eat them now if they are in something, instead of picking them out. I've also developed a liking for fresh-cracked black pepper on a lot of my foods. Not sure that it has anything to do with changing my eating habits, more likely attributable to a combination of my palate maturing and my taste buds dulling.

I always ate all my veggies because it was mandatory but I had no great fondness for raw green bell peppers, celery and mushrooms. My toddler converted me. My nanny was a vegetarian with a great fondness for raw veg. My daughter was always asking for these in addition to raw broccoli and cauliflower. I now really enjoy the raw mushrooms, bell peppers and celery but I still prefer roasted cauliflower and broccoli

I'm a foodie...I've always like pretty much anything as long as it's properly prepared. I've actually always eaten pretty healthy...comes with the "foodie" territory...I just ate too much and didn't move enough.

Red peppers, sweet potatoes, brussell sprouts, eggplant, acorn squash, green olives. Part of it is learning how to cook things properly. There are veggies that I didn't like steamed but that I love roasted.

Asparagus was one for me. My family never ate it growing up and I never thought it looked good anyway. I just tried it for the first time a few years ago and absolutely love it now. The biggest one for me though is onions. I LOVE onions now. When I was a kid, I would freak out if there were onions in anything and wouldn't eat it. Now, some of my favorite foods have onions in them. Yum! Some other things are potato salad, egg salad, and deviled eggs.

Most raw veggies. Avocado!!!! Spinach...love it raw, cooked, in an omelette, etc.

I never knew I liked basil, cloves, or curry that much until the past couple of years.

    Steel cut oats.

Coconut milk in curries, too. Mmmm.

I am still not crazy over tomatoes (don't care for them raw) but I like them much more than I used to and will even eat them raw if they're diced or finely chopped (like in pico de gallo).

My husband has introduced me to vita herring in wine sauce and I really liked it, to my surprise. I've always enjoyed fish but would not have tried that probably.

Yogurt and I have come a long way. I gagged at ALL yogurt until I was about 30 and then broke myself in with the (now yucky to me) Yoplait Whips. Now I'll eat plain Greek like it's going out of style...I love it with fruit, nuts, etc...or noosa as a "treat yogurt" for dessert. Noosa is even better than cheesecake to me, seriously!

Not exactly "healthy" but when it comes to alcoholic beverages...until 2 years ago I was a Jagermeister shots or "girl drink" type (daiquiris, margaritas, flavored martinis) and now I prefer to drink many types of wine, sake, or Redd's apple ale which is beer, or at least the closest to beer I've ever gotten ;-)

Some foods I've always LIKED are now among my absolute favorites, though and frequent players in my daily diet...eggs & salmon especially.

Before, I never liked nuts. Peanuts, almonds, anything of the sort. Now, I eat them all the time, and will not eat peanut butter unless it's crunchy. Also, used to hate strawberries. I love them now. Same with bananas, and apples. I know water isn't a food, but I used to hate it, but drink it all the time now. :) I also used to hate turkey and pork, and loved beef. Now, it's practically the opposite.

Same here. I actually prefer water most of the time. I figured out that I don't like room temperature water or ice water. Gotta be refrigerator temp.

Sweet peppers. I used to hate them, and could detect the trace of them in any food. I decided I wanted to tolerate them, so I just started eating more of them. Started with red ones, roasted, and grew to quite like those. Now, I like (not just tolerate) red, yellow, green, and even raw. I'm working on celery now.

Absolutely love smoked oysters in olive oil... I eat them over white rice.
  • I've never been a big fan of the green veggies, but now I love broccoli, green beans, and sweet peas!
  • I had that with greek yogurt! I used to be repulsed by the thought of the stuff & I have them almost every day now

Also, nuts! I used to pick them out of everything and hate them. Now, I always snack on almonds and walnuts & find them to be delish! (I take the 100 cal packs of almonds in my lunch every day! Oh, how times have changed lol)

OH! And hummus - recently became addicted to the stuff! I always thought it would taste like sawdust for some odd reason, but it's AMAZING
