I haven't had my period for over 3 months. I'm not pregnant, don't do drugs. I do get stressed but otherwise I don't know why this is happening. My mother thinks I'm not eating right but I eat just fine. For the most part my period is usually every 28 days. Has anyone else experienced this? is there something wrong with me? I know I need to see a doctor but I'd like to hear what others have to say.

Hi. Have you seen a specialist called an endcronologist md? Have you read up on PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome aka Stein-Leventhal? Best wishes to you on your journey to find out what's what.0

I don't think you're going to find much advice other than to see a doctor. :flowerforyou:0

I only missed a period once in my teens due to stress and not eating properly. The other two missed periods I have had were because I was pregnant. I have always been regular so I know something is up if I miss one.
I would go see a doctor on this one.0 -
Can you open up your diary?
The only thing people here can critique is whether your diet may be influencing this issue. We can't do that if we can't see your diary.
Anything else is going to have to come from a doctor.0 -
I lost my period when I was 16 because I lost weight very rapidly. I went from 145 lbs to 108 lbs in one summer and around 108-110 lbs I lost my period. I wasn't technically underweight yet, but I think its because of how quickly I dropped weight. I continued to lose weight. I didn't get it back until over a year later when I got back up to 105 lbs.
Have you dropped a lot of weight recently, or has your weight loss been gradual? You shouldn't lose your period if you lose weight gradually and as long as its a healthy weight loss.
If a woman is underweight, she could lose her period. But not all underweight women lose their periods. Back in winter 2010 I was 93 lbs and still had my period but it was not the regular 28/29 days. It was more like a 35 day cycle.
If you do not get your period soon, I agree with the others to see your doctor.0 -

It can also happen when people severely restrict calories, even if they're not underweight, because undereating disrupts many different hormone functions.0 -
I've been at the same weight for years. When i first lost weight 6 years ago I stopped having my period for 4 months. I knew why I wasn't having it then, but to not have it now is confusing since I eat at least 1500 calories a day. I'm not restricting calories.0

Excessive cardio exercise combined with major lifestyle stress me to stop....back in the day....are you excessive in your workouts?0

Mine went missing for a year, then I bled for a year. This was in high school.
After the birth of my son, I had it while I was breast feeding. And when we quit that, it went missing again for 3 months, then it came back with vengeance... and took 2 months to go away. I was medicated both times for the bleeding to go away.0 -

You could be eating 1500 per day but if you've increased your caloric expenditure (exercise) and are netting low... it could be enough cause for it to stop again.0 -
How tall are you? 1500 seems light for maintenance. Either way, time to see your doctor. Not getting your period can damage your bones.0

I had this exact same problem, turned out to be polycystic ovaries; all they do is put you on the pill and it comes back!
See a doctor, people on here won't be able to know.0 -

I'm 5'4'' and I only work out once or twice a week0 -
Um, I have had my period come a few days late...but never totally missed it. I attributed this to hardcore working out when I was first starting out and of course a calorie deficit that I am sure my body was not used to.
Go see your Dr...3 months is not normal unless if your ana and not telling us.0 -

You're positive you haven't lost weight? Even without workouts, 1500 seems light to me for someone your age to be maintaining. Your mom says you aren't eating right. What are her concerns? Is it amount, protein, enough fat?0 -
I don't starve myself. I eat healthy, lots of fiber and protein. my diet usually consists of plain oatmeal, lean chicken, 3-6 servings of veggies and 1 or 2 of fruit. And occasionally a little treat.
My mom always worries. She herself doesn't watch her diet and to her if you don't eat a lot there is something wrong with you. lol0 -
I apologize if this is insulting- I know you said you're not pregnant in the original post, but are you 100% positive you're not pregnant? Even if you're on BC, and use condoms, there's always that slight chance....even if you've had a negative home test. If you've been sexually active in the last 3 months, you might need to have a blood test to confirm you're not pregnant.0

Here is what I found via the Mayo clinic regarding Amenorrhea (period loss)
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/amenorrhea/basics/causes/CON-20031561
Of course the internet can't diagnose or treat anything, but knowledge is power.
Maybe print this and bring it with you to your Dr. to make sure you're covering your bases.
Anything regarding feminine health can be scary, but deep breath. See a Dr. and get sorted out. :flowerforyou:0 -
It's most likely due to either:
1) A change in your diet.
2) Too much exercise.
3) PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).
4) Pregnancy.0 -

I'm 100% positive. I'm a virgin ( how many times do you hear that a 22 year old girl is a virgin?)
thanks for the concern though0 -
just see your gyno to rule out anything.0

How about healthy fats? Those are so important. To be honest, your estimated BMR is about 1400 calories. So if you stayed in bed 24 hours a day, your body would need that much to keep itself running. Without working out, getting out of bed and living life is going to take your TDEE over 1500 calories. I honestly think it's possible you have been chronically undereating even if not intentionally starving yourself. Trust me-I'm not someone who jumps on the "eat more" answer. But you are a young woman, and your daily needs should be higher.
How do you count your calories? Oatmeal is about 150 for a normal serving, plain veggies would take you to a max of 300 calories (for three servings) (and that would be if you were eating potatoes for all the servings), and another 200 for fruit. Being generous, that's 650 calories. I left off the chicken since I don't eat it, but it's probably not 850 calories.0 -
Is it possible you're overestimating your calories? I know people usually have the opposite problem, but I've found that I tend to overestimate on some things. Like 2 tbsp of peanut butter is *way* more than I normally put on a sandwich, but I used to count it as a full serving. That or it may just be general stress. If it's not pregnancy, or food, and it's been 3 months (if it were just a few weeks or 1 month, then I'd say it's just fluctuations), then stress seems like the only thing left. Unfortunately the only way to know what it is for sure is to go to a doctor. And no matter how much you swear you aren't pregnant, they're gonna do a blood pregnancy test, haha. (Although being a virgin might save you from that one, I suppose!)0

Well that settles it! Good for you, girl. :flowerforyou:0 -
I don't really think anyone here will be qualified to give you an answer. It can happen, hormones go out of wack and you don't get your period for a while for seemingly no real reason, at no risk to your health but if your concerned see a doctor, they can run tests and you'll get an affirmative answer.0

(my GF was 32 when she married....and she was a virgin, too. Awesome to both of you! BTW, my gf's son was a virgin too when he married at age 28....so was his bride. YOU can get what the rest of the world has any time....however, not many in the world can have what YOU have! ) :flowerforyou:0

I think I always overestimate. I do it to be on the safe side, so it's possible I'm not eating as much as I think I am.0 -
Try weighing out your food and logging it for week and see how you do. Do it every day accurately as possible. Pay attention to weight/gm/ounces and perhaps this will save you a trip to the doctors.0
-
Seeing your doctor is the best bet. I went through the same thing over the summer and into early fall. After some testing (blood and tissue samples), there was a simple solution. See your doctor and put your mind at ease.0
-
well first i think u should go see your doctor, because they will be able to diagnose something if it is serious. but i will say that stress can be a factor. if you are very athletic sometimes it can affect the cycle too, with decreases in body fat.0
