Would it be tacky?

I've got a meeting tonight, and I know that they're providing food for dinner, so people WILL be eating. BUT they're likely going to have pizza, and I don't want to deal with that sodium or that many calories. Or the temptation. Pizza is one of those things that if it's in front of me and I've got no other food I'll eat and then pick at more.
Would it be tacky if I got my own meal from somewhere else (either Whole Foods or a healthier Subway option) and took it with me? I wouldn't do it if there wasn't going to be food, but since there is...
Gah. Life!

Being healthy is never tacky, I am sure some poeple might give you the "look" but screw 'em0

no, i dont find it tacky at all. is this a work related meeting? or social thing? either way, it shouldnt matter. if all they are offering is pizza and other unhealthy options, then it should not matter if you supply your own healthier option.0

Bring something healthy to share. That way you don't feel singled out. That's what I do.0

It wouldn't be tacky at all!! In fact, if others see the delicious meal you have in front of you they might rethink their "easy" pizza choice and find a better option next time You have to do what is best for you!0

I certainly don't see why it would be considered tacky. If anybody asks why you brought your own food, just explain that you wanted something a little bit healthier. If they don't understand, that's their problem IMO.0

I would do it.0

When I was a memeber of WW and doing good-I would eat before going anywhere I knew they would have food, so that i would know that I would be full. If you think you would be tempted even after that-I would bring a bar of some sort-just something healthy to snack on while they are eating. That was what I personally did, anyway.0

Hey you are in charge of what you fuel your body with, just be polite and thank who ever for dinner and eat what you need to eat, you will feel better and maybe you will set an example for someone else who is struggling with their own "journey".0

Its been a looooong time but I've actually done that before myself!! Its for sure not tacky and its a great feeling of accomplishment afterwards!! ) You almost should win a shirt afterwards that says "That wasn't tacky!" lol! )0

Go ahead and bring something healthy. No one will care.0

Bring your own food!!!! My sweetie makes UNREAL homemade pizza and it is sitting in the fridge right now calling my name for lunch, so I will make you a deal.. I will opt for a tuna sandwich on wholegrain bread if you bring a healthy choice for the meeting
Lets both be strong together!0 -
Not tacky at all!0

What if you have an allergy they don't know the difference0

i had an over lunch meeting yesterday where my manager provided pizza and I went and got a salad. I was actually congratulated for not giving into the pizza and eating a salad.0

You'll be fine! Most of the people will probably be greatful that there is more pizza for them0

bring your own!!!!! there is no shame in being the healthy "odd man out". sure people make give you looks but who cares what they think, you're being healthier than them! as a vegetarian i've had years of having to bring my own food to things so that i can actually eat something, and while some people give me looks. i just smile at them and eat what i want. its your life, eat your way!0

Deal!
Thanks guys. It's a nominating committee for church - we're deciding on people to nominate for vestry. I figured it would probably be ok - I do have some food sensitivities (not allergies, but olives and mushrooms really don't agree with my mouth...it's a texture thing), and not knowing WHAT they're ordering, I would rather be in control. I think picking stuff off if they got veggie pizza would be much worse.
I will take my salad or sandwich proudly and be happy!0 -
Late to the discussion. My vote was NOT TACKY - do what you like, you have to take care of yourself.
If the others are like most people, they will secretly be relishing in the fact that there's MORE PIZZA FOR THEM! :laugh:0 -
Definitely do it! I do this all the time, and I think of it as "leading by example"...0
