What If I gained my weight back....

Thought it may be good to start a motivational thread for people (including myself) to think about what I would lose if I gained my weight back.

The motivation for this is because I have read a lot of stories in this past week of people who come back after taking time off and gaining their weight back.

Sometimes I can't imagine gaining it back, think its not possible, but after reading people's stories, I am sure that they thought the same thing.

So if I gained my weight back, I would lose:
**Some really cute clothes that are smaller
**my newly found awesome athletic potential
and
**probably years off my life.

I am going to try to continue to motivation myself to make sure that I don't go back- I have set up some good ways of living (I view this as a lifestyle change and not as a diet-- I get really aggravated when people ask what diet I am on). I also love working out, so I can't imagine not wanting to continue with that.

Hopefully this helps everyone, I am excited to see what people feel like they would lose if they gained their weight back =)

  • I thought about this & although I'm not at my goal yet, still have 38.5lb to go, I can't imagine I could live with myself I if were to regain the weight I've lost so far.... I love my life now, my energy levels, my confidence, my shrinking wardrobe & my sense of achievement; I have also come to throughly enjoy exercise & fitness, that is something I refuse to give up on, it's given me my life back!!

    I'm not on a diet, I am simply eating less & doing more; living a healthier life & looking after myself....

    I would lose the ongoing challenge to be better and disappoint so many ppl in my life. I would also lose respect for myself and the confidence I have gained over the last year.

    I'd wear the same sweats every day (can't afford any new clothes now) and my kids would take over the house, lord-of-the-flies style. I'd have no energy to keep them in line if I wasn't working out regularly.

    I've been down that path before when I gained 10kg in a year after maintaining a great weight for ages.

    I lost my self confidence, and completely retreated into myself. It's not been until the last 3 months or so that I've finally kicked out of that depression and I'm ready to fight for a lighter body and healthier lifestyle now.

    If I gained, I would lose:
    the example I set for the kids
    energy
    confidence
    a cute wardrobe
    the ability to have a piece of cheesecake guilt free
    the view from the top of the mountain because I couldn't hike it anymore

    I lost 85 pounds and this year I put back on about 22. Boo. At least I didn't put back on 85, I guess. I'm now losing it again and I have 11 to go. All in all, it's not so bad. Even gaining weight I was still in the healthy weight range (by just a hair) so I wasn't unhealthy, I just wasn't where I want to be. A couple more months and I will fit those jeans again :)

    Alas, I've been down that road many times!

    If I gained it all back -- again -- I would lose:
    1. My stamina, including my return to athletic events;
    2. My emotional health, thanks to endorphins;
    3. My physical health, including the drops I've achieved in fasting blood glucose and cholesterol;
    4. The ability to fit again into the clothes I've rescued from mothballs;
    5. The smile on my doctor's face;
    6. Faith (at least for a time) that I can kick my lifetime yo-yo syndrome for good.

    I would probably lose my family. Trying to get healthy has no doubt driven everyone around me nuts with all the obsessive calorie counting but its given me back some of my sanity and I think life must be better for them. I still suffer quite badly with depression but I don't keep everyone awake with my all night, every night, depressed and drunken solo insomnia discos anymore :)
