Natural Acne Solutions

I'm struggling with frequent break outs and looking for solutions that don't involve harsh chemicals or popping pills.

Currently the routine is a honey wash in the morning, witch hazel as toner, and then coconut oil + eucalyptus oil as moisturizer.

I've had success with this routine for my topical acne, but the cystic acne seems to respond to absolutely nothing...

Upping my water intake to 10 (8oz) glasses per day, sleeping with a clean pillow case every night, and showering immediately following exercise. Any other tips?

Has anyone had success clearing or reducing cystic acne with anything other than birth control pills or heavy meds?
Any special diets that seem to work?

nope. cystic acne is a medical condition that generally requires medication. I used benzoyl peroxide for mine. after the treatment did its work, though, I now only use minimal and natural products. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist and going from there. good luck!

Antibiotics are your best bet to get clear and then use this to keep clear. http://www.sephora.com/acne-complex-30-day-kit-P375135?icid2=Murad_Editors_Picks _P375135_image

Yep, unfortunately I agree with hayleyd516. I've had cystic acne for over 10 years and I'm still trying to find a way to get rid of it for good, but the only thing that has ever worked for me was Dianette, a contraceptive that specifically targets acne. And when I say that worked, it really really did work and I would recommend it in a flash. Unfortunately you can only take it for a certain time and then you're taken off it again.

If you're looking for diet recommendations I have head that there's a link between cystic acne & insulin, and therefore the GI diet or similar should, in theory, clear it. However, I've never seen this on any 'proper' medical websites and am only just starting it for myself now. My recommendation would be go to a dermatologist and take what they give you, it's definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. Good luck, I hope you find a solution soon!

I know this is going to sound counterintuitive, but it did work for my friend's teenage daughter.

Another person here with cystic acne for over 10 years. From my experience, I think it is more down to genetics than anything else. My skin produces a lot of oil.

I tried EVERYTHING. You name it, I tried it.
Eating refined sugars seemed to make mine worse so cutting those out helped a *little*.

But the only things that actually worked were Oxytetracyline (one of the antibiotics) and then Oratane (aka Roaccutane/Isotetratonin).

I ended up taking two courses of the Oratane and while it was rough going, it was amazing not to have inflamed, painful lumps on my face. Totally clear skin until about a year later when it started getting really oily again.

How's your diet? I used to have terrible skin, too, but once I started eating healthier and completely cut out greasy foods, it's cleared up significantly. Now I only get a monthly hormonal breakout, and that's it.

I'm also a huge fan of clay masks. I use the cheaper mint juliep one sold at Walgreens/CVS, I do it about once a week and it's also significantly helped my skin, pores and breakouts.
  • I am type 1 Diabetic and therefore my sugars are higher then the general population... i strongly believe that insulin and acne are corrolated. have been on antibiotics, acutane, and that has helped somewhat IT hasn't been that big of an issue as I have gotten older but the products that do help me and that I use are caudalie, Murad, and burts bee (i use combo of all) don't think murad is all natural though. The Basia clay masks are great too. Good luck

I get spots as soon as I stop having a green drink a day. I swear by them for great skin.
