This Bikini Bridge Thing...

So there's this new trend among young girls for 2014. It's called the bikini bridge. I just talked to my daughter about it. She said it's when your bikini bottoms make a "bridge" from hip bone to hip bone. It's sort of like the thigh gap, I guess. I'm just worried because she said some of her friends are starving themselves now so that they can get a bikini bridge by the time summer rolls around. Has anyone else heard of this? I'm really worried that it might lead to some unhealthy habits, and a lot of public uproar.

Second thread about this in ten minutes...both from first time posters...
Here's the thing. There has always been a bikini bridge. Didn't you ever lie down on your back in a bikini?
Nothing new here. Somebody just gave it a new name.0 -

doing more research on it, it seems to be a 'Pro-Ana' thing, and some websites are being told to just talk about it to troll other sites.0 -
If your bikini makes a "bridge" from hip bone to hip bone, anyone can see down your bikini bottom. I think I'll pass on that one.0

I've never heard of it being a thing, but I do have one. I know people of healthy weights can have them. Kind of like the thigh gap, you can get it either by bone structure or by being really, really thin. My sister and I both have hip bones that jut out in front.0

It has a name? No kidding  I have one (*self high five* I think...?) and it's a pain. I can't lie down on my back in a bikini ever. You don't want one, trust me0

You do learn something new everyday. Not sure if I needed to know this though.0

This is a made up thing, with a bunch of guys online trying to troll, and create the new thigh gap.0
-
Its on my Newsfeed! Its ridiculous.0

Sounds stupid. I'm sure if you explain the reasons guys would like girls to have this (as posted above) it'll put her off.
I'm now worried too though as I'm trying to flatten my tum so I can wear a bikini for the first time this summer but I already get complaints from the other half about how boney and sticky outty my hip bones are. I don't want people to be able to see down my pants! :noway:0 -
Hmmm...seems like if everything is 'clean' downstairs it would take a heck of a 'bridge' or a very awkward position from the guys standpoint to see anything that can't practically be seen already. jmo0

or ear bridges....you know that thing when you try really hard to have nothing between your ears?0 -
well these people do need something to keep them busy until they die from organ failure0

My undies do that because my hip bones stick out. But I don't starve myself. It's just how I'm built. My ribs also stick out a bit.0

My bikinis do this... Score one for me? Haha.0

It's basically the new "thigh gap" since the whole thigh gap thing has pretty much been shot down by now (people finally realize that it has a lot to do with genetics and very little to do with your weight). So all the pro-ana teens created this new ideal to strive for, the "bikini bridge." It's just another reason to starve themselves and encourage others to do the same. It's really sad! Just like the thigh gap, some people will have one and some won't, and it's no big deal either way. If you naturally have large hip bones (which I do, they stick out even when I'm overweight), then you will probably have a "bikini bridge." If you don't, you won't.
Keep your daughter informed; you have every right to be concerned. Hopefully this fad will be over soon but I doubt it will.0 -

I've never in my life worn a bikini. And if I did it sure wouldn't make a 'bridge' across my hipbones, lol!0 -
< prefers the boob bridge..0

I had a hard time finding bikini bottoms that wouldn't do this on me. For reference I'm 145 pounds.
Last year it was the thigh gap. I wonder what next years trend will be?0 -
It's a 4chan invention!! (seriously, look at all the posts about it online: they're ALL within the last few hours and all MFP posters making threads about it have it as their first & only post)0
-
wow this is the most insane thing i heard all day...0
-
As long as my bikini bridge only has one traveler, this is acceptable.0
-
Just so you guys are aware, this isn't exactly a real thing. It's sort of a concerted effort of 4chan to make "bikini bridge" a thing.
In other words, those pictures you see are mostly made by bored teenage boys trying to manufacture a fake movement. Looks like it's working.0 -

Nevermind, someone beat me to it :laugh:0 -
