how often do you weigh in?

the times when i have been at my worst, i used to weigh myself up to a dozen times every single day and it drove me mad watching the numbers change so drastically. nowadays i dont weigh everyday mostly because i am quite repulsed by myself and seeing the number depresses me. i am really hoping that 2014 is the year i can actually accomplish my goals in a relatively healthy way. i am going to try weighing maybe once a week, because i think that will motivate me to stick to my diet and exercise every week in hopes of seeing that i have lost weight.

I weigh daily, it's part of my maintenance plan (I keep track of everything on a graph).0

At least every other day - usually daily.
But I track it on a spreadsheet and plot the trends - this helps with the daily WTF moments.

I weigh every morning, but I only log once per week. Keeps me sane to the daily variations. Its not the number itself that matters, but the trend over time (eg: 2-4 weeks) that you want to keep an eye on0

Before I got my Fitbit scale, I was weighing myself every other day or so. With the Fitbit scale, since it'll automatically update here at MFP, I've been trying to keep it to 2-3 times a week--enough to get a feel for if I'm on the right track, but not so often that I feel like I'm living and dying by the number on the scale.0

I've had times in my journey when I would get on the scale numerous times throughout the day, then to once a day, then twice a week, I am currently trying to get on just once a week and making my weigh-in day on a Wednesday. That scale had too much power over how I was feeling, I would feel really good and then see a gain and I would let that effect in an instant how I would feel about myself, it became addicting, I'm trying to realize it's just a tool and the # doesn't define who I am. I think I'm might eventually quit the scale all together and just use how I feel and how my clothes fit as a guide. But for now my answer is 1-2 times a week.0

once or twice a month, just so I can stay on top of my weight.
Don't obsess, it's just a number. Most scales don't read 100% accurately anyways. They don't show you how much muscle and water weight you have. Just go by how well your clothes fit and measure yourself.0 -

For the first few months (when weight was coming off quicker), i'd weigh in every other day... now that that i'm approaching my goal weight (and the weight is coming off slower), i find i only weigh in about once a week (seeing the same number every weigh-in gets depressing)...0

Depends on how aggressive are you working out and what your goals , I weight twice since my goal is 2 lbs a week. so I feel more motivated when I see that I lost or gained 1 lb.0

Frequently when trying to lose weight, infrequently when maintaining. Right now I'm losing, so daily or a couple times a week. Once I'm happy with my fitness and weight level, I won't weigh that often.0

Daily, first thing in the morning.
I lost 35lbs over the period of a year working with a trainer. I moved, so I had done nothing for the last 9 months. The first 6 months of that my weight was stable, then my world got crazy (moved again, sick dog, family visiting from overseas) and I didn't weigh myself for 3 months.
I put on 10lbs! I was horrified!
Working out everyday to get back to where I was and beyond, but I'll be sure to weigh every day for that reality check.0 -
I weigh every morning and log any loss when it is sustained over 3+ days.
I NEVER weigh at any other time of day or after eating. I won't even weigh if I have taken 2 sips of coffee. I'll just wait and weigh the next day.0 -
My official weigh ins are once a month now. I was weighing daily and became obsessive so I made myself stop. I moved to weekly weigh ins but those were all over the place sometimes so I decided to do once a month. Some times I get curious and step on the scale before then, but it no longer determines how the rest of my day will go!0

I weigh and record every day once a day in the morning. My weight fluctuates day to day, but I love watching the overall trend head downward. Looking at the 7-day chart can be depressing; looking at the 180-day chart is inspiring!
I used to weigh once a week, but it could be that that one Thursday that I weigh is the one day that week that my weight went up a bit. That just isn't very helpful. Also, by tracking my weight everyday, I began to notice that even if I ate the recommended number of calories, if I didn't eat the right calories (too much pasta; too little lean protein and veg) I wouldn't lose. It was very helpful to see the connection between the composition of my diet and weight loss.0 -
Everyone has a different view on this. But I think most will agree weighing in multiple times a day is not good at all and very obsessive.
I read some research that says those who weigh daily (once a day at the same time of day) have the best success of keeping weight off.
Most fitness experts advise a once a week weigh-in. You should weigh yourself at the same time of day, on the same scales, under the same conditions. Record you weight and do not weigh again until the following week.
More importantly, however, is knowing and recording your body fat, the true gauge of fitness.0
