Working out with a heart murmur?

I have had a heart murmur since I was born and it has never gone away. Whenever I work out I can feel my heart skip beats and stutter a lot..does anyone else who has this condition experience the same thing?

I would definitely make this something you talk to your doctor about. To serious to just go by Internet advice on this one

You need to get advice from your doc - hopefully you see a cardiologist.

I supposedly had a hole in my heart since birth. When I was i my 20's and after an echo for insurance purposes, my then cardiologist told me my pediatric cardiologist was a quack, and there was clearly never a problem, so who knows. Maybe I did take stupid amounts of penicillin before and after every dentist visit for no good reason.

Anywho, point being I got all the standard instructions anyway, and palpitations and arrhythmia are reasons to get checked out, pronto.

Definitely consult your Doc. I have A-fib and don't know if it is similar but I was told not to lift so heavy that I held by breath to finish lifts.

I have a murmur too and palpitations too and still workout. My palpitations and skipped beats get better the more I work out. Definitely tell your doc this is happening - maybe they can run a stress test for you to see what exactly is going on.

Sounds like you need one of those treadmill stress test things to tell why it happens. Good luck and stay safe and healthy!

I have a heart murmur with a bicuspid aortic valve. You need to have this checked by a cardiologist. I have to see one yearly for an echo. Originally he told me he did not want me getting my heart rate over 150. After a year of being depressed because this meant just walking for me, I asked him for a stress echocardiogram. Where they run you on a treadmill and then look at your heart. He released my restrictions after my results but made me promise i would do it yearly.

Long story short, see your doc/cardiologist for exact exercise restrictions. I will never be allowed to lift very heavy weights.....

See your doctor. I have a congenital heart murmur and no, I don't have those issues.

I have had an irregular heart beat for a few years now. I have had an echo monitor but the results were inconclusive so next week I have been booked in for an MRI. Scan. I follow the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home aerobic workouts, usually doing the 4 Fast Miles one, and have not noticed any worsening of the condition during or after workouts.
